Changes to Blizzard's Battle.net Authenticators

From now on, Blizzard wants you to have one authenticator matched with only one Battle.net account.

In an effort to step up security of Battle.net accounts around the world, Blizzard is implementing a new change to how their Battle.net authenticators work -- most notaby being the fact that Battle.net authenticators can now only be associated with one Battle.net account at a time.

Luckily, for those of you who have one authenticator bound to a multiple Battle.net accounts, you will not be affected, but should you detach this authenticator from any of your Battle.net accounts, Blizzard warns you that you will be unable to re-attach it if it is already bound to a different account.

All in all, this just means that from now on, one authenticator to one Battle.net account.

Far as I know the only phone apps Blizzard has released is for Iphone. Apparently they haven't heart that Iphone isn't the only smart phone in existence. Don't see why they can't release it for Blackberry since Iphone only works with AT@T (unless you go through a lot of effort to hack it of course).

I have 3 accounts and the rest of the "family" has 6 more. I provide a place for kids with problems. Some problems are bigger than others. Sometimes one of the kids runs off track. I really like it that Blizz is helping with account security. One of the kids might mess with another at times.

This will not make sense to most people, but to a kid on the edge of our society, having something like WoW (done with all the right parent sort of things) is a big damn deal.

I hope Blizz keeps the effort up. It helps me provide one little bit of joy and stability for off-the-track kids.

Good job.
ok this just really ticks me off

First off, I think that many of the problems come from that fact people use their email accounts as account names. Makes it so easy to fool people in emails because they just have to mass mail to email accounts to hit one that actually plays wow.

Secondly, they have found another way to make more money by forcing people to buy an authenticator for each account now.

First of all, even if you have more than one Battle.net account (not to be confused with a WoW account by itself), this change won't affect you unless you decide to detach your authenticator from the one of the accounts after the the change goes into effect. It's being grandfathered in.

Second, unless you have an iPhone or Android (in which you can buy the authenticator app for free), the authenticator isn't very expensive. If it were Blizzard's intention to sell these for the sole purpose of profit, don't you think they'd cost more to buy?

Except that the only one you actually have to pay for is the one that comes as a keychain. As far as I'm aware, all other versions of the authenticator are phone apps, and are free.
