Eric Flannum delves into the development schedule of Guild Wars 2

Eric Flannum, Guild Wars 2 Design Lead, delves into the Guild Wars 2 development schedule and a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into releasing information to the fans for his latest blog post. Covered in our GuildFans.com exclusive interview he touched on the same sentiments when asked about the plateau of information, but explores different factors such as coordinating 150+ people across different disciplines.

An interesting look at the process is what ArenaNet calls "iterative development" where they prototype and implement an entire concept to test out. An intense process that means there's going to be changes, reverts and different iterations but literally means they have their hands on and involved in every aspect, testing as they go along. The downside of this is the unpredictability of their development schedule.

"The primary thing we get out of this iterative development process is that it helps us get things right. We can make a better game because we try everything out as it’s being implemented and we aren’t afraid to take something that isn’t working and say 'this isn’t good enough.'"
