Exclusive First Look at LOMA's Enemy NPCs
Perfect World Entertainment has given us a sneak peek at the types of enemies you'll encounter in Legend of Martial Arts.
Legend of Martial Arts, the game formerly known as Kung Foo, just entered closed beta last week. While players get their first look at the revamped game, Perfect World Entertainment has given us a sneak peek at the art design for enemy NPCs. You can check out some of the mobs you'll encounter in our screenshots gallery, and keep reading after the jump for more details straight from the PWE team.
If you're unfamiliar with the free-to-play martial arts MMO, be sure to check out our recent interview with Director of Marketing Jon Belliss. He explains why PWE decided to relaunch Kung Foo under a new title and gives some more details about the game.
LOMA Preview: Mob Design
Legend of Martial Arts is hands-down one of the best looking and most vibrant games that PWE has to offer, and this is thanks to the huge graphical revamp that the game underwent during its transformation from Kung Foo to LOMA. Today we’d like to spotlight the mob, or enemy NPC, art design.
The moment you first lay eyes on the mobs of LOMA, you will immediately realize how far the game has come since Kung Foo. Much detail has been added, body proportions have been tweaked, and anti-aliasing has been increased. On some of the higher level mobs you’ll even find intricate lighting and particle effects.
Another thing that you’ll notice straight off the bat about these creatures is that the majority of the mobs you face are actually humanoid, unlike most games where you’ll find yourself bashing small, woodland creatures 90% of the time. And not only are these mobs humanoid, but they really exhibit a high level of personality due to very detailed and emotive facial features and amusing idle animations. One enemy may be menacingly holding a two-handed battle-axe one moment, only to put it away to take a swig from a loaded vial the next. These guys honestly feel alive, to the point where you may be surprised to find yourself actually mistaking a mob for another player.
We’ve put a lot of work into the artistic design and feel of LOMA’s creatures, and we look forward to letting you experience all that its world has to offer!
