Battle Adjustments

In the first mini-version update, scheduled for mid-February, several battle related changes are slated to be introduced. These tweaks, aimed to help players in non-Abyssea areas as well as to ease skill up frustrations from rapid leveling, are just some of what's in store this month for adventurers!

From Playonline.com:

The forthcoming minor version update will usher in a host of battle-related refinements, including increased experience point yield and eased skill gain conditions.

Increased Experience Point Yield

The amount of experience points obtained by defeating monsters in non-Abyssea areas will be revised across the board. For instance, defeating an "Even Match" foe will yield roughly double the current amount of experience points. This adjustment will also benefit dragoon wyverns and adventuring fellow NPCs.

Eased Skill Gain Conditions

At present, only by fighting foes rated "Even Match" or stronger can players raise their combat and magic skills to their upper limits. With the February version update, however, this requirement will be reduced to "Decent Challenge." Further, players will find that actions targeting themselves or party members will raise the corresponding skill at a faster rate. Once these changes come into effect, players can expect larger figures to accompany each rise in skill. Puppetmasters should also be pleased to know that automatons, too, will benefit from this adjustment.

As I sat at work today, for some odd reason this update popped into my head.
Now I haven't played FFXI in over 3 years. I semi-miss the game.
I've almost came back a few times but stopped because:
1) Its been 3 years, I'm pretty sure my character is gone. I'd have to start over...even tho I'd know how to "level" the best way...i had stuff "done" on that guy.
2) I'd only come back to play BST and DRG XD

My questions:
1) Any one know if I could get my character back?
2) Did they ever add a race/name change (paid) option? Being a Galka is awesome, but when it came to Race Stats and Jobs...sometimes Galka wasn't the best option.
3)What is it talking about with Wyverns? I don't remember mine leveling up? Maybe it did..its been a while Smiley: blush

This will be a great improvement to the returning players that had their accounts deleted and cannot retrieve them again.

This + FoV (No CAP) = very fast XP
The hook brings you back!

Hmm, in two minds about all these changes:

1)

From the perspective of somebody who had to grind all his jobs the hard way, spending years getting jobs to 75, spending hours and hours in skillup parties, spending years in Sky shells to get all the gear, it seems this has cheapened the experience. The game is too easy now, there is no challenge left when people can burn jobs in abyssea to 90 over a weekend, and then get all their skills now capped in half the time too. I have lost count now of how many idiots there are running around at level 90 with relatively good gear who have no clue on how to play their jobs. Oh, and if they cause a party to wipe, whats the big deal as dying and XP loss are not relevant anymore?

This is probably OK in Abyssea, where everybody runs around in GOD mode, but outwith Abyssea, things are tougher and you still have to know how to play your job with a little bit of skill in a party situation, or you are just wasting the time of everybody in the party...

2)

On the other hand, I have relatively little time to play the game compared to what I was playing 4 years ago, so all these changes make it much easier to be a casual player. There is very little grind left in the game, which makes it easier to pick up and play. Its much easier to do events low man now, so much less organization/time restrictions apply. Its a pity I did things like COP and Sky/Dynamis before all these changes, since they have made all of that so easy now - just think of all the time I would have saved by doing it now instead. After having taken a 6 month break and recently coming back, within a month my wife and I have got all our jobs to 90, fully merited, got most of the Abyssea zones/Caturae done, most of the abysites/atmas done, and solo or duo many NM's to get all the gear/seals we need without having to rely on a whole LS.

As I stated, I am in two minds about these changes. Half of me feels cheated by the years I have wasted to get where I am (compared to how easy it is now), and the new breed of unskilled/bad players running around now. The other half is loving the fact that I wont have to spend another 4 years to get all my jobs to level 99 and geared well.

So, besides these battle changes for xp/skill, what else can they be adding/changing now that we have all three Abyssea expansions done?
Have there been any hints to more expansions/battle addons?

Jooppy

great, great changes.. a game that has been out 10 years and has as much content as FFXI should not take as long to get to max level.. There is no need for the roadblock anymore. This should also make finding parties in old worlds easier..

I'm welcome these changes.. now if they would just remove the cap from FoV's and make them like Dominions we'd be set!

FFXi just keeps getting better and better..
great changes!
