Dev Blog: Crafting the Class Intro Cinematics

The above phrase should excite any Star Wars fan. When it appears on the screen, you know you're about to enter a world full of intriguing stories and characters (well, except for the Star Wars Holiday Special). In BioWare's latest dev blog entry, Senior Video Editor Brian Arndt explains how his team created the intro cinematic for each class in Star Wars: The Old Republic, including the iconic text crawls.

Arndt provides all sorts of interesting details about the text crawls. The format has very precise guidelines, from the shade of yellow to the speed of the scroll. "You know what wound up being the toughest part? The angle. Getting the angle at which the text floats off into space turned out to be more difficult than we anticipated. It took several iterations to get it just right," he said.

The Studio Insider post also contains a Q&A with Senior Audio Artist Scott Morton, who answers audio-related questions from fans. Recent counts put the number of voice actors at over nine hundred across all three languages.  There are over six hours of original score that have been produced specifically for The Old Republic, plus an additional hour and a half of brand new cantina music. You'll also hear John Williams’ material from the Star Wars films, as well as the scores for both Knights of the Old Republic I and II.
