SWTOR Associate Lead Designer Clarifies Modding

Wall of Text crits you for 5,000 points of damage.

Emmanuel Lusinchi, Associate Lead Designer for Star Wars: The Old Republic, has taken to the forums to talk, extensively, about the team's design process that went into some of the significant modding changes in SWTOR. Players who only did weekend testing in SWTOR might not have noticed the big modding changes, but for regular weekday testers, this tweak ended up really confusing a lot of players, not to mention the chaos it wreaked on the Galactic Trading Network.

Long story short, most moddable items had a quality change to orange in order to reflect their new status (no, they aren't considered legendary), and players will be able to freely remove / add mods to these items as they see fit. During the changeover process, however, many blue and green items simply lost their mods because BioWare was looking to balance the system without simply making it all about de-modding and modding all of your items. This is a very, very light explanation, and Emmanuel does a better job with his enormous wall of text, so if you were one of the people enraged by the modding changes, swing by the forums to take a read.
