WildStar's December State of the Game

Jeremy Gaffney talks about what to expect in 2013

We've known about Carbine's WildStar for a little over a year now. As 2012 wraps up, we know more about the world of Nexus than when we first saw their trailer, but so much of the game and its world remains unknown. From the sounds of this week's blog post though, it sounds like some of those missing details should be getting filled in soon. For this week's WildStar Wednesday, Executive Producer Jeremy Gaffney gives us his December State of the Game address and talks about what the team's working on now as well as some teasers of things to come in 2013.

Raid content, unannounced races and classes, PvP, tradeskills, new features - all of the areas you'd expect to see in a list of "things we're working on right now" are included.

Jeremy does say they're planning on revealing some Dominion content early next year, which should please those WildStar fans out there who aren't interesting in playing the underdog Exiles. One of the more interesting parts out of his entire post though, I think, is the part at the bottom about gearing up to be more responsive to player feedback. Fast feedback and an engine that can turn around changes to terrain or other fixes quickly are definitely a benefit to beta feedback and development, but they're talking about carrying the idea forward to launch.

Quick updates are somewhat of a "holy grail" for developers - players love them, but it's a lot easier said than done, especially when you consider content development time, art assets, testing, etc. It'd be awesome to see someone pull it off successfully though and planning for it is a good first step.

If you'd like to read the rest of Jeremy's post about the present and future of WildStar, head over to their blog. While you're there, sign up for their beta if you haven't yet - according to Jeremy, they're getting close to beta-ready, so you wouldn't want to be left out.
