Guild Wars 2: Flame and Frost The Gathering Storm

The February patch isn't coming until the 26th, but the teaser page has already gone live.

The next content update for Guild Wars 2 is not coming until Tuesday, February 26th, but the teaser page for the patch has already been pushed live on the official website. In a forum post just last night Colin Johanson said they were in the midst of finalizing the February patch, but even after that it is surprising to see the teaser this early.

As Colin's forum post mentioned, the WvW content slated to be released this month has been pushed back until March, citing further testing needed "because of how broad the WvW game type is." Structured PvP however, still got some love in the short list of new content on the teaser page.

  • New sPvP map: Spirit Watch -- Themed after the Spirit of the Wild statues outside Hoelbrak players will fight between cliffside shrines. Players can earn bonus points by picking up the Orb of Ascension and running it to any of the three shrines on the map.
  • 1v1 Rated Matchmaking -- In this new competitive PvP type, two teams of equal average rating are pitted together in a quick, intense match. Ratings are adjusted for every member of each team after the match.
  • Guild Missions -- "These missions, designed for coordinated group play, include everything from bounties to group puzzles to cross-country challenges. You’ll need to work together to complete the missions and earn new Guild Merits, which can unlock cool upgrades and rewards."
  • Daily Choice -- A new selectable achievement system allows you to choose what kind of content you want to be rewarded for playing.
This patch also continues the multi-part Flame and Frost story. The Gathering Storm is the second installment in the four-part series in the foothills of the Shiverpeaks:
"The situation worsens for the citizens of Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau. Volunteers have eased the burden, but more refugees hobble down from the Shiverpeaks. The storm there gains momentum, but the forces of good are beginning to rally. They’re sending their heroes to defend the land and its peoples. Someone must hold back the gathering storm."
