Layoffs at Molten Games (Updated)

Molten Games has been confirmed as closed with all employees laid off.

Molten Games appeared on the scene last year, and even recently had been posting new job listings. Within the past two hours on Twitter we have been seeing occasional chatter mentioning layoffs at the studio. The extent of it is not known yet, but at least one former employee is openly looking for work now (the tweet was deleted a couple of days after this article ran, and we have now removed the embed of it as well).

We wish the best of luck to everyone affected by these layoffs.

UPDATE, April 8, 2014: These reports have since been confirmed following our original March 25th article. Oksana "Oks" Kubushyna, who was a Lead Producer for Molten Games, put down her thoughts on her blog on April 6th. Check out her blog post about the closure and her experiences with the company.

On Monday, March 24th, just about a year since I started,  a company meeting was called. Visibly shaken founders stood in front of the team and with tears in their eyes delivered the news. We’ve lost our funding unexpectedly and the studio had to shut down. That was the end.

The team stood silent for a while. Then there were hugs and tears. The team had to leave the office by noon so almost everyone went to lunch together (ironically, we hit the “Rock Bottom” bar). Almost everyone showed up at the office the next day. And the day after. And the day after that. They came to show support for each other, share leads for jobs and just hang out with each other. They were an embodiment of what it means TO BE A TEAM.

Molten and all Molteneers will always have a special place in my heart. We’ve accomplished so much. It was the best year of my life and I would have done it again in a heartbeat.

I will miss you.
