:\ Just yesterday my game started giving this error "POL - 1040". It works if I don't use the router, but then that means nobody else in the household can get online... .__. uhg..

Does anyone know if I reinstall PlayOnline, will it delete my Macros on FFXI? (I'm sick of rewriting them ;;) And can anyone else give a suggestion as to fix this problem with POL - 1040? I wanna play on Ps2 XD
fixed!!

After almost giving up, and almost quiting i decided to try one thing. I bought a new Playstaion 2 Internet Adaptor. And it worked! It is odd though, right after that update my connection stopped... What a coincidence.
I hate you pol

I am a PS2 user. All of my friends are. We never have problems logging in. Ever. It might be based on your connection to the internet. I use a switch and have no problems.

You know... There are several different revisions of the same PS2 console and you wouldn't know it unless you could decode the serial #'s on the back or open up the cases (which violates the warranty) However, my friend at the Sony Authorized Repair Center, says that there are certain revisions (very old) that will have more problems than others because they have a different CD/DVD drive, and different chipset. There are also regional (foreign) versions, that get bought up by used PS2 dealers, that should never have made it to the USA.

Ok....I have tried all the different ways SE suggests to get my PS2 back online and get to new update to fix the Error 1040. None of them work! Anyone have any suggests to help me get back online?

PS. I am really glad I pay $14.95 a month for something I am unable to use right now!

This really just makes me wish my PC had not such a cheap motherboard that rejected the video card and forced me to buy the PS2 version.

Swhy dont guys stop being poor and buy a @#%^ing computer.

This is such a moronic comment. 1st of all... why would I want to play on a 17" screen on a desk when I can play on my 52" HDTV? Hmm... sit in a office desk chair, or recline in my supple lounge chair? Tiny little Klipsch speakers? Or my Polk Audio 5.1 DD Surround Sound with a 500 watt subwoofer running through a Yamaha reciever. I'm not trying to gloat here... just prove that the little bit of better resolution you get from a computer isn't worth diddlty when it comes to comfort and quality of my audio/video setup.

p.s. If we didn't have a computer how the ph*ck would we be reading this. You idiot...

1. Uhm... I don't know where you order YOUR computers from, but mine works quite well on my Pioneer PRO-1410HD 61" plasma HDTV. Next time don't be a cheap *** on the video card and you might be able to experience something like this. Just because you can't hook up YOUR computer this way, doesn't mean that others can't figure it out. This type of misinformation is what KILLS innovative products. Next you're going to tell me that HDTV's effective refresh rate is high enough that everything isn't a blur.

2. I have a large sectional suede couch that I play from. No office chair here.

3. Polk Audio, should be renamed Puke Audio, and Yamaha should have stuck with motorcycles when it had the chance. Yeah, they have "pricey" stuff that will make you feel like you bought something important, but quality-wise I wouldn't LET my ears listen to this garbage. I know it's a stretch for some but once you have listened to the Bang & Olufsen Beolab 5 Loudspeakers, you'll understand why what you're using is just crap. Paired with a high quality Harman Kardon AVR 7300 reciever, and you'll enjoy gaming like I do. The fact that you claim such mind-boggling sound quality coming out of the PS2 anyway is just plain stupid. ALL sound on the ps2 is limited to 48Khz. I've had 96Khz since the basic audigy came out. 9.1 channel surround? Hell no. The PS2 BARELY manages 5.1. Not to mention the SNR of the ps2 is only 96dB. Creative has been well over 100 for YEARS. (mine is 113).

4. If you want to call someone a moron, please do your research first. Just because your only experience with computers is at work and occasionally to check allakhazam, does NOT mean that you know everything. You only prove to embarrass yourself. The fact that you make all these incorrect blanket assumptions about computers VS. PS2 WHILE CALLING SOMEONE A MORON is quite unbelievable. I'm not saying I stand behind the original comment, but you can't call someone a moron, when you EXPLICITLY make yourself out to be just that.

Different strokes for different folks, fella. You tried to prove and failed. Everyone has his/her own preferences and, personally, I'd rather use a computer to change around music files and models and such as I please. Furthermore, you make too many generalizations about your hardware as compared to the hardware of others. After all, everything you have mentioned potentially being used with your PS2 can also be potentially hooked up to a computer if you just have the right audio/video components. Otherwise, good point in the P.S. The comment you referred to was rather daft if only in that single point. Additionally, since anyone reading this must have computer access and getting the PS2 version (w/ hard drive) is more expensive, the aforementioned post was really terribly and obviously not thought out at all.

More to the topic though, I look forward to this update as my friend who plays PS2 version often has trouble with this.

Heh, I didn't think I'd get any karma boost from posting this. I guess I shouldn't have been so lazy and logged in first. ˆ¸ˆ;

#1 im not trying to put anyone down im just stating my own opinion.

the reason i play on ps2 is because it is cheaper for me...my comp sucks and it would cost to much to buy a new one(cant update its a laptop >.<)
i had a ps2 before FFXI so i spent $89(walmart) instead of around $1000 to personaly build a computer worthy to call it "My Own" (and to run games).
Because the PC i have now can only run Medal of honor Allied Assult at aroung 2-10 FPS... ouch that sucks...

But to get my opinion clear, is the music in FFXI evn worthy of a 7.1 (like my familys HDTV in the living room m(_ _)m ) or even a mind boggling 9.1 o.0 i dont think so.(but i do love the music).
and i know that FFXI on PS2 isnt neer perfect, but it works.

so even though i wouldn't mind a PC that could run FFXI, im happy with what i have.

>.< hands hurt now...

The music coming out of FFXI (on PC) is rated at 96Khz.

However, the sound effects are not coded for 7.1 or 9.1 surround sound. The Creative Labs Audigy 2 or 4 will work around this, it has a somewhat intelligent method of creating a 7.1 environment out of 5.1 coded sound effects.

It's quite interesting to stand in the mog house spinning in a circle, I can hear the waterfall run a circle around me.

In addition, mob "attacking" or "aggro" sounds seem to be harmonically placed in the direction they are relative to which way your facing. It's quite nice.

Ah, this is a nice update. I've been getting that error while playing FFXI lately, and I'm connecting through a Linksys router, because my school has a weird piece of network authentication software, so I can't just hook right up to the wall.

Thanks you, Square Enix ^^b
