Mobile Graphics Chipsets We have collaborated with several PC manufacturers and confirmed compatibility with the Mobility RADEON 9000, GeForce FX 5600 GO, and Mobile nForce2 IGP chipsets used in certain retail PCs. However, this does not guarantee compatibility of FINAL FANTASY XI with all machines that happen to use these mobile graphics chipsets. For more information about driver software on approved machines, please contact your PC's manufacturer. Compatibility testing is currently underway for those products not listed. NOTE: Depending on your system's configuration, the above drivers may not function correctly. Acquiring and installing driver software is your responsibility.

lol yeah I had this problem as well with the "Latest NVIDIA" graphics card that came in. What was the worst thing was that I played SMN up to 23with the problems with the avatars. When PoL gave me some advice however....it totally messed up my computer O.O;. I had to get my dad to come in, and download like an hour and a half of updates or something like that for it to work a again. I wasn't able to play FFXI at all...however, after my dad downloaded everything again...it fixed all of my old problems except one (I shall ask that soon). Anyway yeah, be careful with there adivce, it always helps to ask your parents (if you are a child like me ^^;)if it is ok to be doing all of this stuff for your computer o_O. I might have well just asked my dad to tinker with it in the first place.

Ok, the problem now that is still continueing with me is with an avatar specifically...Ramuh. He looks fine except when performing one of his bloodpacts...it doesn't show him doing anything...just standing there and then WHAM! He does his bloodpact. So really, It doesn't show him readying his bloodpacts, however, it works fin with all my other avies so it isn't a major problem...

Ok... Every modle, animation, etc. has a file on your computer and it sounds to me like the problem with your computer is one of the following: 1) This file for charging was corrupted when you installed FFXI so it's still there, but it doesn't tell your computer to move the modle. 2) for some reason your computer will not receive the command from the server properly that tells it to show that file. or 3) Your graphics card's ram fills up really fast so it can lag for like a whole casting.

To fix #1 you would have to reinstall FFXI (I know it's a pain esp. since there's been so many updats since the comp version came out). If you have tried this already chances are #1 is not the problem unless you have a slow, tempermental, etc. comp.

#2 I wouldn't know how to fix

For #3 you could get a new graphics card with higher ram, or you could run less background programs, like if you have Norton you could disable auto-protect while your playing. If you have a graphics card with really high ram then this probably isn't the problem, but you would have to have really high ram, because I have a card with 128 MB (nvidia GeForce FX)and I'll still get video lag sometimes in a normal pt and like all the time in an alliance (and it's really not prety with like 30 Quadavs lol), but sometimes like when someone/something starts casting and then does something else their/its modle will stop doing the casting motion until it casts the spell or whatever.
Nvidia Graphics Problems

I dont know if this has been posted anywhere yet but this seems like a good place. If you are having problems with your graphics and you are using an Nvidia card, the problem may be with the drivers. Symptoms include having trouble seeing transparent layers, as in some parts are missing or garbled; some models are garbled or disappear and reappear, specifically avatars; or if a characcter or mob in the distance does not show up or blinks in and out.

To fix this you need to install a previous version of your drivers, for some reason the new Nvidia drivers are incompatible. I am using a 5700LE and i had to go back to driver version 5.6.7.2, this has worked for everyone i have talked to. I dont know if it is different for other cards or not, i had the same problem with my last Nvidia card but i didnt find this out til I got this card.

Hope this helps.

i have that 9700 but 128mb version and I have the same hay wire problems that LyleVertigo spoke of. I have tried every possible driver available and nothing fixes this. Its only in this game and only when I have powerplay turned to optimal performance. Please help, thanks.
it's true

this is actually true though. because i have a geforce5200 and i would have problems seeing avatars, and mobs that would be a small distance away from me. either parts of them would be missing, or the entire figure would be missing. i had the forceware version 60-something. i read this on PoL, and i changed my drivers to the ones they recommended, and now it works perfectly. it's been pissing me off, because i've been playing like this for like 3-4 months, and i hated it. i even ordered a new video card. but until it gets to me, i'm stuck with this one. but now i'm happy, cuz those drivers worked.
Recent Problems

I noticed that for about a month my video card, ATI Mobile Radeon 9700 265mb, has been having some issues with FFXI.

At first the rendering would go haywire after 30 min.- an hour of playing as well as misscolored polyons on char. during gameplay.

After slicking harddrive and reloading drivers, the problem is worse in a different way. Now the computer would reboot itself or freeze when playing the game. Somthing with one of the recent updates that makes the game incompatable now?!

I have the same chip (256MB Mobility 9700), but haven't had any problems at all the whole time I've had it. For reference I'm using Omega drivers.

Not sure about good things to try to fix your issue, but it doesn't seem to be something like an incompatibility between the chip and FFXI. :\
