MMORPG & Humanity

Read this, it makes a ton of sense and to some this might even be scarey to you. The Title of this should have been, "The effect of MMORPG to humanity: The Awasome You."

F.Y.I. No this is not about W.o.W If it were I would not suggest reading it ~.^
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 22 2005 at 3:56 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I wonder if the problems are lying in overcrowding on some of the servers. I know on cerberus, if your in lower jeuno, there are times you move at what seems like speeds of slow and stop. Too bad SE doesn't transfer all of your character data (exp, money, items, missions and quests.. ect..) over from one server to another. If you could do that maybe people would be a little more inclined to move when given the oppritunity and the servers wouldn't be so crowded... leading of course, to less downtime for the players.
When?

I'm not good at converting times.

What time did this start, Eastern Time, and what time will it end, also Eastern Time?
rate down
# Aug 22 2005 at 3:43 PM Rating: Decent
hey. i have an idea while we wait for the maintenence to finish. rate down everyone who complains about not being able to play FFXI for a whole 5 hrs.

Wow, what a great idea! Because everyone really cares about being rated down, don't they!?

Besides, I'm not complaining I can't play it for 5 hours. I don't get to play for 65 hours because of the time they have chosen. I have more important things to do for the next couple of days.

btw. Even though your post temps everyone to rate you down, I won't because I don't particulary care about the karma system.

Look, I know I should go out and frolic in the sun. Hey, it might be a good time. But I still have two complaints of over what is happening right now:

#1: Don't tell me a problem is fixed if it's not. Twice.

#2: If you think maintenance will take you longer than two hours, tell us so. I'm more upset now that it's been pushed back another two hours than I would have been if you said we were having 5-hour maintenance right at the beginning. I might have even been *happy* if you finished it early.

C'mon SE, this is just poor customer service.
Monday Again???
# Aug 22 2005 at 3:01 PM Rating: Decent
Why monday in the middle of the day??
That seems to be a trend here lately,
I dont mind maintanance i know its necessary but i work 6 days a week ~60-70 hours. Monday is my only day off every week. Just wish they could switch up the days a bit, or maybe do it durning the middle of the day in Japan(yea right inconvienience them and not us)
Just my 2 cents, change the day for "Scheduled" maintanance/updates

Yeah, extended an hour... Which I find rather cute. When I logged in today I got that purple message saying that there would be maintenance, and that the duration would be three hours, instead of the scheduled two. When they started spamming the system message to log out, it said two there also, so I wonder if they had changed their minds, planned three, and not bothered to tell anyone about it. Real cute.

Glad I found a good book...

But, of course, everyone at SE is expected to be perfect, so that's no excuse. ¬_¬

I know. And by now, after however many updates that have been pushed back, we shouldn't expect them to finish on time. :P Nor is it the end of the world to wait another hour. I just thought it was interesting, seeing three hours and then two and then three again.

Edit: Well, we're up to 5 total hours now. Go SE!

Not for events...

SE doesn't normally need to take the servers down to remove an event. I assume that it's programmed to come down on its own at the time it's listed to end. Besides, if it were to update for events, it'd be called an 'update' and not 'maintenance'. This is more likely to fix the recurring login and search problems that have come up so many times over the last week.

And they probably always do the maintenance on Mondays at 10PDT because that's when the fewest people are normally logged in (as evidenced by their outdated census).
i was right

Not everyone gets to take any day off they want. If I could, SE would find out and have maintainence those days anyway. The jerks... I say leave the fireworks in, and let me get more chocobo tickets!

update
# Aug 21 2005 at 8:29 PM Rating: Decent
this update is to take out the old summerfest thing and to implement the buffalo blitz. im sure they will also resolve the log in problems everyone has been complaing about. I'll take a 2-3 hour maintence over a 16-24 hour maintence. I am alittle mad tho because I go back to school on Wed. But oh well I'll just go play Madden 06 or something.
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 20 2005 at 10:00 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I like to scratch my hiney and sniff my fingers afterwards. Skidmark art is another hobby of mine. Passes the time during maintenance.

I thought the last update was to -get- new servers?

It's been, what, two weeks, maybe? I would think that the servers wouldn't require maintenance already, because SE has already put major testing and data integrity checks into these servers before putting them online.

Right? >.>

(For those of you who can't detect it, all of that was sarcasm. Thank you for your time.)
Schedule maintences would make everything better
# Aug 19 2005 at 5:34 PM Rating: Decent
I agree with capcanuk, If we had a maiteniance 1 or 2 times a month, scheduled days, that would be great. Though really 2 hours will do nothing because I don't get on as much as these other people. Maybe every other Monday. That would be great.
