Warhammer Online Preview Images

The folks at Mythic were kind enough to send Danalog some screenshots from the upcoming Warhammer Online MMORPG. Since he's off on vacation at the moment, I am posting them for him so you don't have to wait until he gets back. These images are thumbnailed, please click on them to see a larger, much higher resolution image. Enjoy!

As a fan of the original tabletop game both warhammer and warhammer 40k and own every warhammer pc title there is. I'll probablly give it a run on my PC. As for looking like WoW how many ways can you draw an orc dwarf or human Plus they needed to resemble the characters from the original game minatures/book art. Which IMO WoW took as their own when they made it. To be perfectly honest would like to have seen a release in the 40K timeframe but I always enjoyed the BFG9000 too.

Those sceens look just like Wow.

As far as "WoW just does so many things right that EQ never did." Yeah, wow has fast food gaming down pat. What wow did was listen to the whiners when creating the game and in doing so created a piece of crap, granted it's a gold plated **** but it's still a ****.

In seven years if wow has more then 2 open servers I'll be shocked and I can promise you they won't still be creating expansions for it. Have they even bothered to release an expansion?

Don't get me wrong, I love wow. All the gold farmers are there now and not bothering us in eq =)

BTW. This was posted on the everquest section of Alla. So bashing EQ and praising wow is probably not the best idea.

What the Time?

Anybody know anyone who has enough time for two or more MMORPGs? I dont! Even some persons who have really plenty of time, are very busy keeping two MMORPGs at the same level. So why are they throwing out Online Games like Candy? Star Trek Online, Warhammer Online, Middlearth Online, Age of Conan...why cant the Publishers accept that Eve online, WoW, Lineage 2, EverQuest 2, DAoC and Star Wars Galaxy have the real Majority of Gamers World Wide, the market is satisfied.

It solely depends how much time you have to spend. Certainly those without "a life" will find it easier. I am currently playing EQ and WoW myself and still have an active EQ2 account as well. Of course, you can dedicate less time to the games you play that way but if you're not a hardcore player who has to be in a high-end guild and raiding every day it's IMO no big deal playing two or even three MMORPGs.

I will certainly give Warhammer Online a look, I've been waiting for it for years now.

Um, think EQ might have more players than EQ II, so don't be so quick to throw EQ out of the picture.

People were saying the same thing before WoW and Lineage 2 and EQ2 came out... the market is saturated. Granted it's more true now, but there's always room for more niche games.

And who says you have to play two or more? Lots of people quit the one they're on to try something new.

Lol. Mythic policy: take a good look at a succesfull game(EQ), then make a clone using an existing Lore/IP (Dark Age of Camelot).

Rinse and repeat, but this time using WoW as example and the Warhammer IP. :D Man, do those screens look like WoW! I realize that this is the most superficial comparison ever (since I have not talked about gameplay, which is quit different in DAoC and probably in Warhammer too) but still. ;)

I have to agree, they do look like WoW. I quit EQ and EQ2 for WoW so I know whereof I speak.

WoW has so many players they can't keep up with the demand, even after banning over 5,000 accounts for cheating (and suspending over 10,000 more). Last I heard, there are over 5 million people playing WoW. EQ was never that big (maybe a tenth of that), and you no longer see every EQ expansion on the "best-seller" lists from the gaming companies so that will tell you something about how many players are left (i.e. not too many).

WoW just does so many things right that EQ never did. Making 80 dairy spoons to skill-up in smithing so you can make banded armor that nobody wants? Not in WoW. In WoW I can tradeskill useful (as in I can wear it, or sell it to fellow players, and it is better than what I already have or what drops) stuff from the get-go.

There's a healthy player economy because almost everything has a required minimum level, and most used items can't be resold except to vendors. That means when you outgrow an item, it can't be passed on to a twink, or sold to another player, removing the item from the economy thus making room for a new item.

The minimum required levels mean that you don't have level 10 characters wearing full suits of rare armor making them nearly invulnerable; instead, they're wearing level-appropriate stuff and looking for upgrades as they level.

I haven't raved about a game like this since I started EQ five years ago, and I haven't raved about EQ in a very, very long time...

I did play WOW shortly. I found it boring as hell, and i just couldn't accept the graphics. It is unrealistic in the fact that all tradeskill items are usefull, u don't get good by doing good. WoW has a large population because the warcrafters saw it, the eq haters saw it, it was slightly marketed, diablo players saw it, and starcraft players saw it. WoW is big because word spread. Also, again, the graphics hurt my eyes, they are so unrealistic that even eq, a 7 or whatever year old game beats it. Sony may be out to kill us all, but at least they make addictive, fun, challenging games. EQ ALL THE WAY FTW!!!

Quote - Last I heard, there are over 5 million people playing WoW

Why don't you go into describing what its like playing with all those people? If you say its like one big happy family, then you are lying and only wish to bash EQ for WoW's sake.
