This is the quality of the item, as indicated by the color of the item name. This is not the same as the item color, as in the color of the tint applied to the item. See Category:Items by Color for tints.

In some circles this is being referred to as the "Awesomeness Scale".

Awesomeness Scale

Tier	Meaning
Common	These are the most common items.
Uncommon	Better than white, until you get something better.
Rare	Unless you buy something with Station Cash this is almost as good as it gets.
Marketplace	This was bought with Station Cash and is the best gear there is, short of Rare. Some items from special events and free item code redemptions also fall into this category.
