A little lone thread on the official rift forums has caused quite a stir. Below we have the current list of things mentioned there, as well as additional tips and advice submitted by ZAM users and staff.
If you have any content you would like to add, you can. Just login and press either "Edit" or "Discuss" above and add what you have got to say.
- Do not forget to go to your class trainer. Spending talent points unlocks new abilities, but you still must train your abilities as you level. Fighting level 18 monsters with rank 1 skills makes the game significantly harder!
- When you get a larger bag, you can drag it over the smaller bag and it will replace it and move all the items from the small bag into the larger bag.
- Under Setting->Interface are NUMEROUS check-boxes that can totally change how the game plays for you, including things like targeting my target and showing numbers in health and mana bars, etc
- You cannot chain cast via a single macro, however you can put multiple abilities in a macro and hit the same key and it will cast whichever one it can first. If you put reactive abilities, then melee abilities with cooldowns, then melee, then ranged abilities with cooldowns, then ranged; you can just press the single button repeatedly. See the Ultimate Macro Guide link further down.
- Runes (from Runecrafting) make a HUGE difference in character ability.
- Participate in closing rifts. The rewards such as Planar Shards, Planarite, etc. are worthwhile.
- Purple and Blue planar shards are only good in the zone you earned them, but Planarite is good in all areas
- If you hit Escape to get to the main menu there is an "Import" button. It will import all settings (keybinds, graphics options, layout, etc) from another character that you have already set up, to the one you are currently playing. There are also check-boxes, so you can import specific parts of another character's setup if you like-- instead of importing all of their settings.
- This link: Ultimate Rift Macro Guide Shows the useful /commands, including such things as how to save and load equipment when you change roles.
- This link: ACT - Shows how to set up Advanced Combat Tracker for Rift (lets you fine tune your damage per second by trying different things and seeing the results)
- In the Raid window people's names are color-coded by their role.
- Red = tank
- Purple = support (typically Bard)
- Blue = Healer
- Yellow = Ranged DPS
- Brown = Melee DPS
- When you complete some major quests, a diamond appears top center of your screen, click it to claim your loot for that event.
- In settings you can make it so you can queue spells / abilities up (default is short queue, can change to long queue or no queue).
- Turning VSync off can DRASTICALLY improve your Frames per second.
- Under Settings there is a Global UI scale. This will scale the bags and Character box, which you can not do manually under Edit Layout.
- If you collect an artifact, and when you go to add it the artifact window is just a blank screen - close it, press C, click on Artifact - and your option to add it will reappear.
- The Planar Lure that you get from an early quest will allow you to convert Tears to Rifts. You will get an additional point bonus for doing this!
- Under Settings there is an Auto PVP Flag option - turning this off will not put you into PVP mode if you accidentally hit an enemy stone.
- When you have to use an item for a quest, no need to search it in your inventory. Just press the icon appearing in your quest list on screen.
- Press Ctrl+F (default) to search your bags.
- When key-binding, hover the mouse pointer over the action bar slot you want to bind a key to and press the key you want to bind to it.
- /twitter and /twitterpic to make twitter updates while playing.
- To search on AH for an item, if you have one copy of it in your Bag, just right click on this item and AH will auto-search.
- Many NPC's offer daily quests, for crafting, winning Warfronts, or simple quests. Doing them nets you nice rewards, experience, and faction coin for buying special items.
- If you have a soul with no training points spent in it, you can swap it out for another soul without going to any trainer. Please note you must have at least 4 souls for this to work.
- At level 13 you can get quests (one at a time) for the other 5 souls you have not already gained. To get it, just go close a rift and then use the item in your bag, then turn in the quest. This lets you have 8 souls to choose between. NOTE: All you have to do now is buy your souls from your trainer. No Rifts to close.
- You can have up to 4 roles (each one costs more) so you can have 4 different setups. Roles do not have to share the same 3 souls, so you can have different roles with any of the souls you have unlocked. Also, you can make a macro that changes your role and all your equipment.
- When you visit a vendor, there is a small icon at the bottom right of his trade window. The icon looks like a stack of coins, on a small circular button. This will sell all sellables (gray items) in your bags.
- While in game, type /exportui and hit enter, this saves a file in the rift folder for your ui setup
Then type /exportkeybindings and hit enter, this saves a file in the rift folder for your keybindings
Now when you go to another shard, etc., you can type /importui , then /importkeybindings .
- Save different UI setups for melee, spellcasters, petusers, etc.
Examples:
/exportui melee
/exportui spells
/exportui pet
- Auction EVERYTHING you dont need that is runebreakable. Runecrafters will buy inexpensive greens off the AH, allowing them to advance skill and you to make more than the vendor will pay.
- CONTROL-LEFT CLICK on a piece of gear (weapon, armor) and a preview pane will pop up so that you can view the item on your character (also can zoom in and rotate said character).
- Explore more. There are hidden places and a puzzle in each zone that have achievements and/or rewards. One, for example, is the highest mountain peak in Silverwood - had a blue item for me and an achievement for reaching it.
- You can complete group and solo quests when in a raid group.
- In the settings menu, there is an option to "Cast on Target of Target"; This is excellent as a healer spec. For this option, go to Settings > Interface > Combat and check-mark "Cast on Target's Target". Keep the tank as your target, and you can continue to cast damaging spells at what your target is targeting, but still throw heals on your target, all without losing your tank target. I also use this as a DPS in many cases, where I just simply target the tank and cast damaging spells.
- As a healer in a Rift, where mobs are targeting people who are not in your Raid/Group, you can target the mob and cast a healing spell. The healing spell will always hit the person the mob is targeting.
- Great for increasing activity as a healer in a Rift or Invasion. It is a pseudo "Dual Targeting" system that works wonders in rifts and instances.
- Don't vendor your artifacts! Sell them on AH.
- If you are in a party you will have the option to zone in to a dungeon from anywhere when the first member enters.
- When you exit a dungeon or portal, you have a few seconds where you are immune to attack, so long as you take no ability action, allowing you to leave the area. This is important on a PvP server as gank squads sometimes hover outside entrances.
- This link - Shard Status - Shows you the current status of all shards!
- You can only have 1 rune applied to an item. Multiple runes, even with different stats, will not stack. If you use another rune on a piece of gear, the existing stat bonus will be replaced. The Collector's Edition rune (giving the glow and stats) appears to stack fine with runes.
- Crafting - The colors of the recipes in your list are indicators of whether you will get a point to advance that crafting skill. If the recipe is gray you will not receive a point for crafting it. Green seems to mean about 20-30% chance of getting a point, Yellow seems to mean about 60-70% chance of getting a point, orange is a guaranteed point. Every 10 levels (points) on the meter will see an orange recipe go yellow, yellow go green and green go to gray. So check for and buy new recipes every 10 profession levels to keep "Orange" recipes available to maximize your crafting points.
- New recipes are listed in green once available from the Skill trainer. If you choose to also show unavailable recipes, they will show up in red, but you will be able to see what recipes you can gain at the next level increment - including when you will reach your next rank!
- Guild perks - Active ones need to be slotted or mapped to an action bar to be applied. Hit the 'G' key by default to open the Guild panel, click on perks and drag the item from the left hand set of perks to a slot. Left click to activate it.
