Shadowhound Mount Quest Guide

This guide does not include details that are provided in the text of the quest. Instead, it provides travel tips, location coordinates, time estimates, level requirements, mob levels, and other information to help you get through this quest line.

Required Factions: Martok, Vulmane, Varanthari

Level Requirement: You can start this at level 22, but I recommend waiting until level 26-27. If you start before then you will spend a lot of time leveling up to qualify for the next set of quests.

Note: Time to complete quests will vary depending on a variety of factors (competition for mobs, grouped/solo, level, run speed, Riftway usage, etc...)

It is highly recommended that you bind in an area that is next to a Riftway. This will save you a lot of travel time.

Part 1: ~7 minutes

Part 2: ~15 minutes

  • Location: Muerdan's Hut (-42630, -81760, 887 in Sundering Wastelands (-19 12)) inside a hut on the water.
  • To Get Here: Rent another Pegasus and fly across the mountains and water. Use Recall to return to Wildgrowth Forest.
  • NPC: Muerdan
    • Quest #2: Beasts of Ghalnn's Realm (Speak with Nerail Tharazen)
      • Required Level: 22
      • Time: 15 minutes (travel)

Part 3: ~90 minutes, 3 Quests, 75 kills

  • Location: Shadow's Edge (-42630, 84180, 17235 in Lomshir (-15 -9)) outside a tent.
  • To Get Here: Use Riftway from Wildgrowth Forest to Hathor Zhi. Bind here, rent a Wyvern and fly north to Shadow's Edge.
  • Travel Tip: If you fly directly to Shadow's Edge and get the quest quickly, you should have enough time left to fly back across the gorge and then run a short distance to the Tiberian Wildwood.
  • NPC: Nerail Tharazen - Gives 3 quests, one at a time.
    • Quest #3: Drawing Their Attention (Kill 35 Tiberian Wildwood Shadowhounds)
      • Required Level: 22
      • Mob Level: 23-24 3-dot
      • Time: 40 minutes (25 min killing, 15 min travel)
      • Travel Tip: After completing Quest #3, Recall back to Hathor Zhi, rent a Wyvern and fly north to Shadow's Edge. Get the next quest quickly and then fly to the location of the Dark Elf Ghosts.

    • Quest #4: Ghalnn's Awareness (Kill 40 Dark Elf Ghosts)
      • Required Level: 23
      • Mob Level: 23-24 3-dot
      • Time: 35 minutes (28 min killing, 7 min travel)

Part 4: ~3 hours, 9 Quests, ~228 kills

  • Location: Camp Dhanrak (1040, -50470, 50551 in Spider Bluffs (-26, 25))
  • To Get Here: Use Hathor Zhi Riftway to Renton Keep, then rent a Griffon and fly south to the Camp.
  • Faction: Vulmane
  • There are 3 quest NPCs here, giving a total of 9 quests, most of which can be done at the same time. One quest tracks the other 6, which involve killing various mobs.
  • NPC: Swiftfang Hekosh - Gives 5 quests
    • Quest #6: Many Components (This is just a checklist of the quests 7-12)
      • Required Level: 24
      • Time: 3 hours (20 min travel, 160 min killing)

    • Quest #7: The Wolf Within (25 Sticky Silk and 15 Binding Silk)
      • Required Level: 24
      • Mob Level: 24-25 3-dot
      • Time: 35 minutes

    • Quest #8: Vial Discrepancies (22 Ichorous Venom and 22 Sedative Venom)
      • Required Level: 25
      • Mob Level: 24-25 3-dot
      • Time: 25 minutes

    • Quest #13: Hounds of the Invasion (Kill 17 Darkpaw Stalkers or Hunters and kill 17 Gulgrethor or Shinak Shadowhounds) (available after finishing Many Components)

      • Time: 40 minutes (20 min travel, 20 min killing)
      • Travel Tip: Recall to Hathor Zhi, then take the Riftway to Trengal Keep and bind there.

    • Quest #9: The Essence of Kaon (20 Kaon Fairy Essence)
      • Required Level: 24
      • Mob Level: 24 3-dot
      • Time: 20 minutes

    • Quest #10: Gullwing Portals (25 Bluff Gull Wings)
      • Required Level: 25
      • Mob Level: 24-25 3-dot
      • Time: 30 minutes

  • NPC: Nighthunter Mikka - Gives 2 quests
    • Quest #11: Rituals of the Adhendreg (35 Ashen Hills Ash)
      • Required Level: 24

    • Quest #12: Creature Comfort (30 Wild Boar Mane)
      • Required Level: 25

Part 5: ~2 hours 40 minutes, 3 Quests, ~125 kills

  • Location: Strand of the Ancients (20645, -77650, 713 in Strand of the Ancients (-10 -9)) inside a hut on the beach.
  • To Get Here: Use Riftway from Renton Keep to Skrilien Point, rent a Griffon and fly south.
  • Faction: Varanthari
  • NPC: Farmouka Velmesh
    • Quest #15: A Riddle of Cats and Reptiles (collect 12 Brilliant Yellow Tiger Eyes, 4 Unruptured Lion Spleens, 8 Flecked Snake Eggs, and 30 Snapper Scapula Shards)
      • Required Level: 26
      • Mob Level:
        • Snapper Turtles: 24-25 2-dot
        • Tigers: 24-25 2-dot
        • Lions: 24-25 2-dot
        • Snakes (The Flecked Eggs drop randomly off of the Vipers, but every time off the Anacondas)
          • Jungle Vipers: 24-25 2-dot
          • Gemscale Anacondas: 26 4-dot
      • Time: 90 minutes (Lion Spleens took a long time to drop - others went fast)

    • Quest #16: Skrilien Practices (35 Imbued Carmine Feathers, 35 Viridian Feathers, and 35 Ochre Feathers). Mobs usually drop multiple feathers.
      • Required Level: 26
      • Mob Level: 25-26 3-dot
      • Time: 65 minutes

    • Quest #17: Vulmane Guidance (Return to Swiftfang Hekosh with bag of items)
      • Required Level: 27
      • Time: 15 minutes (travel - Recall to Trengal Keep, then take the Riftway to Renton Keep, rent a Griffon and fly south.)

Part 6: ~4.5 hours, 6 Quests, ~175 kills

  • Location: Camp Dhanrak (1040 -50470, 50551 in Spider Bluffs (-26, 25))
  • To Get Here: Recall to Trengal Keep, then take the Riftway to Renton Keep, rent a Griffon and fly south.
  • NPC: Swiftfang Hekosh
    • Quest #18: Precision Hoarding (collect 4 Maiming Beaks, 45 Lizard Eye Blood, and 6 Oilskin Worm Mucus)
      • Required Level: 27
      • Mob Level: 26-27 3dot
      • Time: 80 minutes (10 min travel, 70 min killing)

    • Quest #19: Provoking Shadowhounds (this quest tracks quests 20-22)
      • Required Level: 28
      • Time: ~3 hours (total of the 3 Shadowhound quests + return travel time)

    • Quest #20: Words of Trengal (Kill 32 Large Trengal Wards)
      • Required Level: 28
      • Mob Level: 26-27 3-dot
      • Time: 70 minutes (10 min travel, 60 min killing - NOTE: these are scattered, look behind TK and near the two gates to the valley. Some walk past the Griffon vendor in groups of two.)

    • Quest #23: Mountain Shadows (Find Ghostclaw Liarn at Northern Border, Thestra)
      • Required Level: 29
      • Receive Shadowhound Trap from Hekosh upon accepting this quest
      • Time: ~15 minutes (travel)

  • NPC: Ghostclaw Kagin
    • Quest #21: Ghalnn's Forgotten (Kill 40 Ocean Watch Shadowhounds)
      • Required Level: 28
      • Mob Level: 28 3-dot
      • Time: 45 minutes (10 min travel, 30 min killing)

  • NPC: Nighthunter Mikka
    • Quest #22: Ashen Shadowhounds (Kill 35 Ashen Shadowhounds)
      • Required Level: 28
      • Mob Level: 27 3-dot
      • Time: 40 minutes (10 min travel, 30 min killing)

Part 7: 2 hours, 2 Quests, 80 kills

  • Location: Northern Border (-23900, -33700, 76011 in Falgarholm (-23, 27))
  • To Get Here: Recall to Trengal Keep. If you are level 30+ take the riftway to Northern Border. If you are under level 30, take the riftway to Misthaven Crossing, rent a Griffon and fly to Northern Border. There is no bind stone in Northern Border so you might want to bind in Misthaven Crossing.
  • NPC: Ghostclaw Liarn
    • Quest #24: Ghalnn's Foes (Kill 20 Worshippers of Vothdar, 30 Worshippers of Valus, and 30 Worshippers of Alurad. Also kill at least one of the leaders - Telorok, Thaden or Ancestral Revenant)
      • Required Level: 29
      • Mob Level: 29 3-dot, leader is 29 4-dot
      • Time: 110 minutes (20 min travel, 90 min killing)
      • Travel Tip: Rent a Griffon and fly north to the first camp. After you finish there, recall and rift back to Northern Border. Rent another Griffon and fly to the camp furthest to the east, then hit the third camp on your way back.
      • Shadowhound Trap returned upon completion of quest

Part 8: 1 hour 40 minutes, 2 Quests, 75 kills

  • Location: Wardship of the Sleeping Moon (-5200, 6000, 9894 in Wardship of the Sleeping Moon (-23, 25)) outside town walls by a big tree.
  • To Get Here: Use Riftway from Northern Border to Celestine Ward. The Celestine Ward rift is available at level 29 (possibly 28). If you are not able to use the riftway, follow the path south from Northern Border to Wardship of the Sleeping Moon.
  • Faction: Vulmane
  • NPC: Silvermane Alopek
    • Quest #26: Enemies of Ghalnn's (Kill 25 Worshippers of Vol Anari, 25 Worshippers of Vaelion, and 25 Worshippers of Gloriann. Also kill at least one of the leaders. The Vol Anarie leader is in the cave, upper left side. The Matron of Gloriann heals herself and is the toughest to kill, by far. The Valion Captain was fairly easy to kill.
      • Required level: 29
      • Mob Level: 30 3-dot, leaders are 30 4-dot
      • Reward: 22 Slot Saddlebag
      • Time: 90 minutes (30 min travel, 60 min killing) TIP: Take Celestine Ward Riftway to New Targanor and start at the Gloriann camp, then work your way back to Wardship of the Sleeping Moon.
      • Shadowhound Trap returned upon completion of quest

    • Quest #27: Nexus of Summoning (Travel back to Nerail Tharazen in Shadow's Edge, Qalia)
      • Required Level: 30
      • Time: 10 minutes (travel - Riftway to Hathor Zhi)
      • Note: This NPC also gives a quest to kill Bloodhowler wolves. This is not required for the Shadowhound mount.

Part 9: ~50 minutes, 2 Quests, ~10 kills

  • Location: Shadow's Edge (-42630, 84180, 17235 in Lomshir (-15 -9)) outside a tent.
  • To Get Here: Use Riftway from Celestine Ward to Hathor Zhi. Rent a Wyvern and fly to Shadow's Edge.
  • Travel Tip: Rent the Wyvern, fly to Nerail and get the next quest quickly. You should have time to fly to the beach outside the cave for the final quest.
  • NPC: Nerail Tarazen
    • Quest #28: Ceremony of Summoning (kill mobs until you get 6 blood vials. Right-click the 6 skulls in the cave (stay inside the circle of skulls at all times), then right click the Shadowhound trap in your inventory. Nerail Tarazen spawns with 2 Shadowhounds. Ignore the hounds and kill Nerail. When he dies another Shadowhound spawns. Hail him and click "I am now your master". He gives you the Shadowhound summoning collar and sends you back to Muerden near Martok.

  • BUG ALERT !!!: The first two times I did the Shadowhound quest line this worked fine. However, this time when I clicked "Accept" for the 'One Final Component' quest nothing happened. Eventually the Shadowhound de-spawned and the quest window closed. Fortunately, another player had the same problem and figured out a solution while waited for his /petition to be answered. Just right click the Shadowhound Trap and the quest window will open again. This time "Accept" should work.

      • Required Level: 30
      • Mob Level: 30 4-dot
      • Time: 30 minutes (5 minutes travel, 25 minutes killing)
      • Note: Each person on the quest needs to collect the 6 vials of blood, light the skulls, and remain in the circle of skulls during the fight with Nerail.

  • NPC: Shadowhound
    • Quest #29: One Final Component (Travel back to Muerden in Sundering Wastelands, near Martok)
      • Required Level: 30
      • Time: 20 minutes (travel - Recall and take a riftway to Wildgrowth Forest)

Part 10: 1 minute, 1 Quest

  • Location: Muerdan's Hut (-42630, -81760, 887 in Sundering Wastelands (-19 12)) inside a hut on the water.
  • To Get Here: Travel - Riftway to Wildgrowth Forest, then rent a Pegasus and fly to Muerden.
  • NPC: Muerdan
    • Quest #30: Riding a Shadowhound (Purchase a Shadowhound saddle from Muerdan for 10 gold)
      • Required Level: 30
      • Time: 1 minute

TOTALS:

  • Quests: 30
  • Mobs Killed: ~770
  • Time: ~16.5 hours (992 minutes)
