DC Universe Online releasing this November

IGN is reporting that Sony Online Entertainment's DC Universe Online is coming out November 2010. The news comes by way of the recent Sony Online Entertainment event where they were showing off the game's E3 demo. The title will be released for the PS3 and the PC.

In the demo, the player was doing for missions for a Big Brother, like Superman or the Joker, to prove himself. As a hero, the player will take on a mission to save robin from Harley Quinn's layer. It's also interesting to note DCU's preferences when it comes to character costumes. Harley Quinn was dressed in her Batman: The Animated Series outfit, and Robin is Tim Drake dressed in his red and black duds.

So, true believers (oh wait, that's Stan Lee...), you'll only have to wait a few more months before you can tie on your cape and fly with Superman.

DC Universe Online Talks Guilds, Teens, Kryptonite

DC Universe Online has released another Inside the Studio video, answering the fan's toughest questions. Things they talk about:

Guilds

Guilds will be fully functional, and while they're not releasing a ton of info on them at the present, they are saying that guilds will have proper superhero names, like Leagues and Legions.

Kid Heroes

During character creation, kid body types will be available, so you can make your Robin-esque or Teen Titan hero. Choosing the kid body type won't effect your stats or abilities in any way.

Weaknesses

Superman's vulnerability to Kryptonite and Green Lanten's weakness to the color yellow will not be included in the game. The directors spoke about how it would be very difficult to implement, but they're looking to possibly add the idea of hero weaknesses in updates and expansions to DC Universe Online in the future after the game has released.

Will Dead Heroes or Villains Be Featured?

Cao and Anderson have said they've played around with the continuity of the DC Universe in order to produce the coolest versions of the world's characters. That means some characters that have died in the current DC Universe comic book continuity will be present in the game. Having these characters alive gives the development team the ability to tell the best stories.

Character Creation

The directors spoke of a feature during character creation called "inspired by," that gives players the ability to scroll through many of the DC's greatest heroes and villains, choose one, and then create a brand new character inspired by the one chosen. This also carries over into how the characters play. So if you've chosen Batman, you'll see a variety of new characters that appear dark and ninja-like and possess all of Batman's gadgets and martial arts fighting ability.

DC Universe Online Character Customization Video

Jens Anderson, Creative Director of DC Universe Online, has posted a new video about character customization. Creating and customizing a character in DC Universe Online is an ongoing process, and as Anderson notes, you can collect costume pieces off fallen foes and add them to your get up. I call Black Canary's fishnets!

Check out the video below:

Black Adam joins the cast of DC Universe

The mean-spirited bad boy has arrived on the DC Universe home page and his name is Black Adam. If you're a Black Adam fan you can download the new, exclusive wallpapers and buddy icons of your favorite anti-hero. Or should we refer to him as a villain? He did kill Psycho-Pirate by punching through his head with a with a three stooges eye-poke. He's also worn the same costume since 1945, which is a crime in and of itself.

If you head over to DCU Online, you'll also find wallpapers and buddy icons for DC staples, Batman, Superman and others. DC Universe Online seems to be heating up and we're excited to, like Black Adam, put it to those pretentious heroes.

DCU Online Video Says Heroes can Fly at Level 1

A new DC Universe Online "In the Studio" video answered some questions today about character creation, powers and headlines. Lets go through some of the topics:

Headlines

After you and your team of heroes take down a villain or foil a plan to destroy the world, you'll see a newspaper headline reporting on your actions. It's an instantaneous pat on the back from the Daily Planet and will factor into your renown. The developers stressed how DC Online is about making you the next legendary super hero and accumulating renown by grabbing headlines feeds into that.

SOE has also released a bunch of nifty Power Girl screenshots of this busty heroine in action, and you can check them all out in our ZAM screenshot gallery. Wonder who's due for a reveal next?

Directors: DCUO Will Have Nature, Sorcery Powers

Sony Online Entertainment has published the second episode of the "Inside the Studio" video series on the DC Universe Online Facebook page, and it features Game Director Chris Cao and Creative Director Jens Andersen answering more questions from fans.

Cao and Andersen reveal that nature and sorcery powers will be available in the game. Nature powers will let you heal and take on different forms, while Andersen could only say that sorcery has "awesome special effects." Ice, fire and earth powers have been previously confirmed by the team.

Cao also emphasizes that every character can go into offensive, defensive and support modes so you can adapt and play with your friends without worrying too much about roles in groups. Check out the video for answers to other questions, including a couple about weapons and the importance of the storyline.

Game Director Discusses Traffic in DCUO

Sony Online Entertainment just posted a video on the DC Universe Online Facebook page that features Game Director Chris Cao discussing how traffic will play a major role in the upcoming comic book MMO:

"Traffic? It's a plaything. It's something to mess with as a villain, to create mayhem, to cause it to go wrong. ... And as a hero, of course, it's up to you to contain and then to fix that kind of damage. ... While it might seem like a small thing, it's a big thing in DCUO."

Sadly, the video doesn't contain any gameplay footage of traffic in action, but it is good to see an update from the DCUO team.

SOE Reveals Zatanna in DC Universe Online
