New DC Universe Online Screenshots Focus on Combat

Sony Online Entertainment has released a batch of new DC Universe Online screenshots to make our weekend a little brighter. These images focus completely on combat, including both the PvE and PvP varieties. They even show off some of the areas that will be featured in the game, such as Joker's Fun House, Glen Morgan Square in Metropolis, the Hall of Doom and Circe's Lair.

You can view all of the images in our DCUO screenshots gallery.

Gorilla Grodd Unleashed in DC Universe Online

Gorlla Grodd, the highly intelligent mind-controlling foe of the Flash, plans to wreak havoc in DC Universe Online. That's what these new screenshots just released by Sony Online Entertainment seem to suggest, at least. Grodd has an army of apes at his beck and call, so be careful if you happen to run into him in the upcoming comic book MMO.

Be sure to check out all of the Gorilla Grodd screenshots in our gallery. Which hero or villain are you most excited to see in DC Universe Online?

GamesCom DC Universe Trailer

"I used to be amazed by the powers of others. Now I stun them with my own." Translation: Superman is only super until you can kick his ass. In this new trailer from GamesCom, player progression and empowerment take the stage, showing us that even though we might be wimpy heroes or villains now, we can eventually make even the Man of Steel respect us. We will be the next legends.

Other cool items:

1. The ability to throw helicopters shown at the end and...

2. The magical double Uzis! Don't miss them!

Collector's edition and beta signups in DCUO!

If all you're here for is to find out how, when and where you can register to be eligible as a closed beta tester.... Then head on over to the DCUO website to sign up! If, however, you can spare a little bit more time to find out about the upcoming PC Collector's Edition of DC Universe Online, then keep on reading!

Today, SOE just confirmed that DCUO would, like any other triple-A MMO, include a Collector's Edition (CE) of this upcoming super-hero MMO. The CE edition of the game will be available for pre-order and at launch, and it will include a statue of Batman, the concept of which came from reknowned comic book artist and executive creative director for the game, Jim Lee. The statue will depict the Dark Knight jumping from a building, ready to "rain justice down on evildoers." The Collector's Edition of DCUO will also include a limited edition Art of DCUO book, which includes 56 pages of the art and information on the making of the game. Finally, the CE Edition of DCUO will also include a limited edition DCUO: Legends Issue #0 comic, written by Tony Bedard (Green Lantern Corps), and illustrated by Oliver Nome, Michael Lopez and Livo Ramondelli, with a variant cover by Jim Lee.

And if buying a Collector's Edition of this game just isn't your thing, you can also get some neat pre-order perks from several major retailers; some will be offering the ability for players to play as Batman in an exclusive two-on-two PvP combat arena, while others will be including the limited edition comic, and still others will be including a unique "in-game iconic weapon" for players. You can check out the full press release here!

Raid the Batcave!

Wow, talk about big time bosses. During the DC Universe Online "Loot" video, Chris Cao off-handedly mentions that the biggest, toughest end game raids include storming Batman's Batcave and laying siege to Superman's Fortress of Solitude. Our guess is that the two heroes are gonna be pissed, and you'll probably have to fight them. Consider our minds blown and duly persuaded to play as a villain.

Chris also speaks about the epic-level loot that will be available if you complete said raids, all of which will be appropriate the heroes or villains you take down. He speaks about massive robotic armor and magical robes with floating runes, but our minds can't help but wonder what the loot will be for taking down Batman or The Man of Steel. A villanious new Batman outfit or a Batmobile "mount"? Only time will tell!

New Poison Ivy Screenshots From DC Universe Online

DC Universe Online has posted the first ever batch of the Queen of Chlorophyll herself, Poison Ivy. We may or may not have just made up the nickname "Queen of Chlorophyll." Poison Ivy can be seen using a variety of plant-based superpowers in the screenshots. One seems to be an immobilizing vine and another looks like a blast of flowers and... pollen? Check them out in our DC Universe Online screenshots page.

Visit Suicide Slums in DC Universe Online's Video

Check out your first peak at Suicide Slums, the seediest and most dangerous part of the otherwise clean and thriving city of Metropolis. Is there some areas that escape even Superman's watchful eye?

Game Director Chris Cao explains how this is as ghetto as Metropolis gets, but it's also an area with a "heart of gold." The superhero Steel (immortalized by the great Shaquille O'Neal in the film of the same name) has his headquarters there, called Steelworks. Check it out!

New E3 DC Universe Online Trailer

"I wasn't born on Krypton." The new E3 trailer for DC Universe Online is quick to tell you that even though we may not have heroic beginnings (I was born in New Hampshire), we can still be heroes. Why? Because we can crush The Joker with a car. At least that's what we're drawing from this quite epic trailer. Because with great power comes great... well, pretty much great everything, we suppose. Check it out for yo'self.

New Super Speeeeeeed Video

Ok, so it's not as fast as light, but the Flash's super speed in DC Universe Online is pretty fast. Not only will you be able to get around the environments like Metropolis and Gotham City faster, but super speed will also give you unique attacks not available to non-speedsters. And how do you feel about about running up the sides of buildings and on ceilings? Talk about disorienting to your opponents.

All this can be yours is you choose super speed, available from level 1 by the way, in DC Universe Online. Check out the video below.
