Small Q&As With Jim Lee, Marv Wolfman About DCUO

For those of you who've been waiting for some new DC Universe Online media, a short Q&A with Jim Lee was recently posted at MMORPG.com. Jim Lee was one of the founders of Image Comics and currently serves as Creative Director for SOE's upcoming DC Comics superhero MMO.

The interview is short and sweet, but offers a glimpse into the process that Lee was hired for: making sure Sony gets it right. The piece is accompanied by another Q&A about DCUO, with Marv Wolfman, an old-school comic book writer. Wolfman is also on the DCUO team, and offers some info about the story arcs and themes that will be found in DCUO.

DCUO Comic-Con Poster Confirmed to Show Catwoman

Leading up to the San Diego Comic-Con, teaser images of the newest DC Universe Online poster were posted as hints on the official DCUO Twitter page. We looked at both hints and figured the poster showcased Catwoman, and it looks like we were right! A new tweet shows comic artist and DCUO Executive Creative Director Jim Lee signing the poster for a fan at the convention, and he even took the time to draw a quick Hawkman sketch. You can view the image after the jump.

Members of the ZAM team are on the floor of the convention right now, and I'm sure they've been spending some time at the DCUO booth. Keep an eye out on ZAM.com for more DCUO news from our team in the field, and expect to see Catwoman in the game once it launches.

Hint #2 Shows More of 'Purrrfect' DCUO Poster

In case you missed it, a recent blog entry on the DC Universe Online Myspace page provided readers with a teaser image of a poster that will be given out at the San Diego Comic-Con next week, and it was the bottom half of a female face. The post said "people will be 'clawing' to get it," leading us to believe the poster is of Catwoman.

Well, a new post on the DCUO Twitter page has given us a second clue to the identity of the woman in the poster. The second image is a closeup of gloved hand with claws, which can be viewed after the jump. The tweet says it's the " purrrfect" poster, which all but solidifies it's Catwoman. So it's pretty safe to say she'll be making an appearance in the game.

Members of the ZAM team will be at the convention, which will be held from July 23-26. I'm sure they'll be stopping by the DCUO booth, so they'll be able to get a first-hand look at the full poster and let us know if we're right about our guess.

Side with Your Best Friend or Foe in Video Contest

If you have a best friend or foe in the world of DC Comics, you should considering entering the BFF contest on the DC Universe Online Myspace page. All you need to do is submit a 30-second video explaining who your favorite DC hero or villain is and why and you could win some DCUO items, including a poster of Lex Luthor in power armor signed by Jim Lee and the development team.

The contest just started yesterday and runs through Aug. 15. If you happen to be at the San Diego Comic-Con from July 23-26, you can even submit your video on the spot. Members of the ZAM staff will be at the convention, and maybe you can convince them to dress up and make a stand for their BFFs at the DCUO booth if you ask them nicely in the comments section below. I'm not making any promises with that suggestion, though.

The DCUO team is looking for creativity, as they've shown in their own Myspace video. Grab some props, make a costume and really convince them why you'd rather side with Superman or Doomsday in a fight. More information can be found after the jump.

Comic-Con Teaser Poster Image: Catwoman?

A blog entry on the DC Universe Online Myspace page has provided readers with a teaser image of a poster that will be given out at the San Diego Comic-Con, which will be held from July 23-26. The teaser image shows the bottom half a female face, and the post says "people will be 'clawing' to get it."

From the "clawing" remark, it's safe to assume the poster is of Catwoman, which means she'll likely be appearing in the game. So if you plan on attending the Comic-Con, keep an eye out for this poster. You can view the image after the jump.

Fan Faire: DC Universe Online

It's always a personal pleasure to drill the DC Universe Online team with questions about the game and where it's at. Unfortunately the team wasn't showing anything new at Fan Faire, so we caught up with the Senior Producer, Wes Yanagi to ask all the questions that we haven't received clear answers on yet. Check out our findings...

ZAM: You've gone into some detail about PvP. Can you give us some more information about how PvP will work in DC Universe Online?

Wes Yanagi: First of all, PvP is always going to be consensual. The main thing with Heroes and Villains is that it lends itself naturally to PvP encounters, so a choice you can make for PvP is say, picking a PvP server, where all bets are off. If you're on a PvE server, we'll have 'flagging' for folks to toggle onto PvP mode. The different choices that you make there are like going into a PvP zone. You'll know that it's a zone and it's contested or something like that and that will be a choice you can make. Nothing will be required for people who don't like PvP to go into this. The other thing would be something like battlegrounds where players go into contested missions and instances - so that's PvP right there. The most interesting one is going to be contested encounters. In that case you'll have, say, an armoured car that's going down the street and you'll look at that encounter and go "OK that's fully marked as a contested encounter," so as a villain you might go knock it off and take the object inside of it. Now you have to transport that to a safe house or extraction point. If someone was on the hero side, he might be flying by and see the encounter and see you flagged for PvP. That hero can say "yeah I want to engage in that," so then he has to go in and get that same objective and transport it to the vault to secure it.

Address Reveals EQ Expansion, Info on SOE Games

Members of the ZAM team are currently at Fan Faire in Las Vegas and got to see Sony Online Entertainment President John Smedley deliver the third annual Community Address. It was announced that the 16th EverQuest expansion will be called Underfoot. It's coming out in November, but you'll be able to participate in events beginning in July that will give you credit to get Underfoot before anyone else. It will launch with 12-15 zones, with bonus zones being added through April 2010. It will include a new achievement tracking system and double the amount of weapons of any other expansion.

UPDATE: To clarify, Eldiroth has stated in the official SOE forums that there is no level increase in Underfoot.

As Calthine has already reported, it was also revealed the new EverQuest II expansion, Sentinel's Fate, will explore Odus, and Free Realms will introduce the Soccer Star job and more content for both driver jobs.

Star Wars Galaxies is celebrating its six-year anniversary today at the convention with a bunch of panels, and attendees are getting a Dianoga Dumpster in-game item that eats your trash and spits out random items. As Tamat reported, the Chronicle Master profession was also announced at Fan Faire.

Keep an eye out on the DC Universe Online Myspace page for information on a new video contest that asks players to explain which hero or villain is their best friend or foe. Fans at the convention are also checking out a service that allows players to purchase SOE art prints and have them delivered to their home, which will launch later this year. Keep reading after the  jump for more information.

Submit Your Fan Faire Questions to ZAM!

Fan Faire 2009 is just around the corner, and members of the ZAM team are preparing to head to Las Vegas from June 25-28 to cover the event. All of your favorite Sony Online Entertainment games will be featured at the convention, and our group plans to fill the ZAM.com home page with as much news as possible. This year, we'd like you to be a part of our reporting team by submitting your questions on three SOE games!

DC Universe Online and The Agency are two upcoming MMOs that are as different as night and day. One is full of superheroes, while the other focuses on espionage. And then there's EverQuest, the granddaddy of the genre that has been going strong for 10 years. We know members of the ZAM community must have questions on any or all of these games, and we'd love to hear them so we can do our best to get them answered at Fan Faire! Submit your questions by clicking on the name of the MMO above and posting them in the forum thread.

Also, if you're going to be at Fan Faire, there's going to be a ZAM panel held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 27. Stop by to listen to our team, including Jeffrey "Allakhazam" Moyer, discuss 10 years of Allakhazam. You can check out the full Fan Faire schedule here.

Recap of ZAM's E3 Coverage

Members of the ZAM team were on the floor of the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2009 at the Los Angeles Convention Center last week to bring you all sorts of information on your favorite MMOs. You can check out all of our coverage on our E3 news feed, but we've compiled all of our noteworthy features and news posts in this post for easy access. So keep reading below and after the jump for our in-depth E3 coverage, from the unveiling of Final Fantasy XIV Online to our impressions on Star Wars: The Old Republic!

ZAM E3 Features

All Points Bulletin E3 Impressions: Andrew "Tamat" Beegle gives us a first look at All Points Bulletin, Realtime Worlds' upcoming fast-paced third-person action MMOG. While he didn't see any live gameplay, he was highly impressed with the level of depth available in character creation, as well the number of car models and in-game MP3 player.

Star Wars: The Old Republic at E3: The ZAM team had the opportunity to enjoy a private gameplay demonstration of Star Wars: The Old Republic, and everyone was amazed by what they saw. Of course, the team wasn't allowed to record footage of any of the gameplay, but Tamat did get an exclusive interview with SW:TOR Lead Writer Daniel Erickson and Lead Designer James Olhen. Check out the video!

The Potential in Heroes of Telara: Trion World Networks unveiled its new fantasy MMO at E3, and Tamat gives us his first impressions on the game. While he says it's too early to tell if Heroes of Telara will deliver on its promises, he does emphasize it's a beautiful game with some new ideas and improvements to ideas that have potential.

E3 Interview with Jens Andersen: Once you've watched the PS3 gameplay demo for DC Universe Online, check out our interview with Jens Andersen, the game's creative director.

E3 Gameplay Footage of The Agency: The ZAM team was able to get some video of a mission being played out in The Agency. Take a closer look at this espionage action game from Sony Online Entertainment.

E3 Interview with Jens Andersen

According to QuakePrediction.com, there's a 97% chance that there will be an earthquake up to 6.3 on the richter scale in Los Angeles tomorrow. That's not enough to stop the ZAM team from bringing you the most exciting MMO coverage from E3 show floor however. Besides, Draknorr did a number crunch and he came up with a 32.33% (repeating of course) chance of survival. I digress....

During our DC Universe Online gameplay demo we had a few questions for Jens. As always, he was more than gracious with his time and he gave us some interesting answers. Make sure to check out the gameplay demo before you watch our interview with Jens Andersen, which is available after the jump.
