ZAM Ventures Back Into Earth Eternal

Since we took our first tour of Earth Eternal in 2009, the game has fallen on hard times. Sparkplay Media had to shut the game down in summer 2010 when it ran out of funds. The game was then recently reborn in Japan under the name Ikimonogatari, and now Earth Eternal has made its return to North America in open beta under the direction of TurnOut Ventures and OutBlaze.

The team behind Earth Eternal has said that it's best to think of it as a brand new game, so I decided to dive in and explore the revitalized world. Keep reading after the jump to find out what Earth Eternal is all about!

Comboing Up to Dragon Nest's Open Beta Level Cap

Ever since I first set foot in Nexon's Dungeon Fighter Online back in September 2009, I've had a heavy fascination with all things "action." Maybe it's just nostalgia running rampant from those days spent playing Marvel vs. Capcom, but I've always felt that if any new MMORPG genre was going to take the throne, then real-time action combat would be it. So when Nexon announced their next action MMORPG, Dragon Nest, to follow on the footsteps of Dungeon Fighter Online and Vindictus, you can bet that I was all over that open beta from the moment it first started. Now, almost three weeks after my first foray into the lands of Lagendia, I can safely say that Dragon Nest is the most fun I've had in an action MMORPG to date.

ZAM Hacks 'N' Slashes Through Rusty Hearts Beta

While the formula may not be a brand new concept or even a unique one, Rusty Hearts is a refreshing change to the typical MMO. If you take one part dungeon crawler, one part old school arcade brawler and mix in an energetic soundtrack and anime-inspired graphics, you come up with a decent image of what this new offering from Perfect World Entertainment is all about.

Rusty Hearts entered closed beta this week, and I dove in to give it a shot. Keep reading after the jump for my impressions. If you'd like to try out the anime-inspired action MMO, grab one of our Rusty Hearts closed beta keys and you'll be ready to go!

ZAM Tours Hellgate's Demon-Infested Landscape

In 2007, Hellgate: London was launched by Flagship Studios, a group formed primarily by Diablo developers from Blizzard North. Its post-apocalyptic landscape set the background for a battle between humans and demons in London, but its developers were also beset by financial troubles. Flagship filed for bankruptcy in 2008, while Hellgate: London ambled along for a bit before shutting down in early 2009..

Despite all of those hardships, the gates of hell have reopened. T3 Entertainment, Redbana and HanbitSoft brought the game back to North America and it recently entered open beta. Boasting 5 acts, advanced difficulty levels and a new pay structure, I had a chance to take a tour of the game's demon-invested landscape of 2038. Keep reading after the jump to find out I fared against the hordes of hell!

Can Rise of Immortals Rise Above the Rest?

It's no secret that the video game industry, like any other consumer industry, operates largely by trends and popular concepts. Back when World of Warcraft gobbled up an unprecedented number of subscribers in the mid-2000s, competing MMORPG developers were working furiously to reinterpret that experience in order to steal some momentum for themselves. These days, the same can be said about the dozens of "DotA-like" (Defense of the Ancients) games being released every year.

Right now, Riot Games' League of Legends is probably doing the best as a "spiritual successor" to the incredibly popular Warcraft III mod, but S2 Games' Heroes of Newerth is still going quite strong, not to mention Valve's upcoming DotA 2, which is currently in development. As with every competitive industry, however, there are also the smaller companies toiling away to accommodate the players who just couldn't connect with any of the above, and Petroglyph Games' Rise of Immortals may just fit that niche.
