Let me express what many of you are feeling right now: Arrrrrrrrrgh! Let me in! Let me in! I want my Kitty! *breathe* OK. According to Sony, they are aware of the problems and are working on them, including bringing on more patching servers. Why they didn't think of this before, since this is almost identical to what happened at the original release is beyond me, but I'm sure they want you to play their game as much as you want to play it. Feel free to use this forum to try to help each other get into the game or to just console each other while you wait.

Ok....i'm gonna share what WE did to get EQ working on my friends computer. We did the 4-6 hour patch...(wasn't paying attention) something like 4-6 hours...LONG TIME TO STARE AT A SCREEN. Then it came up with the 3D device not found BLAH BLAH BLAH....so we downloaded the Driver for the Video card...nothing...same message =(. Next we downloaded Direct X 8.1 Nothing...same thing!!!! 6am and now were pissed off. so we re-installed Shadow of Luclin. BINGO WAS HIS NAME O!!!! takes a long time to load on the computer with 256 ram..and the cat race "had" laggy graphics last night (not sure now). other than that...it only took 7-8hours of our lives...a SH%T load of Cigarettes and mountain dew. but if you can load the new images its almost worth 8 hours of your life.

ok i spent allday with tech on this crap. my pc meets the requirements to play regular eq 750mhz amd duron 128 mb 30g HD (with tons of room) 8 mb nvidia tnt2 vid card. ya i know the card is a bit low in mb but according to verant it should still run eq (which it does) well alls been patched, downlaoded, bla bla bla i can log on with out any problems get my character up and running for....all of 20 seconds. so i can obviously run eq....i just cant play eq. so look for 3 years worth of stuff being givin out in povar soon when i load eq up on someone elses pc to kill my characters. oh and those of you that can still play or are upgrading thier pc's too be able to play.....look for a rate hike per month....they have to cover the loss of funds somehow

I KNOW im the only one to have this problem ,
after i click on Play Online when the patch is setter it turn to a black screen with a box saying Error with EQmain.dll.

I tried to delete it and re-DL it but of course it didnt work , lol, I deleted all my .dll also but it didnt work as well

NEED HELP!!!

I've spent many hours trying to get EQ up with SoL. No luck yet, but I may have advice to those getting 'Unable to load ******.DDL file' errors. I uninstalled and re-installed SoL, but on the re-install, I checked the box that says 'Load DirectX8.1'. After that, I did the patch, got some new files and no file error came up. However, I got a no 3D device present error.... OOPS, gonna buy geforce 2 64MB later today to remedy that error. I'm not getting my hopes up though... wouldnt be suprised if I experience another error.... I hope this helps anyone getting the error concerning files not loading.

i also have voo doo 3 if you go on www.voodoofiles.com/3dfxhelp.asp you can fin ones that say directx don't know if it worked yet but crossing my fingers

When I get into EQ there are weird black boxes around all text, when I go into F10 mode the screen is black. I can't even see my spells in my spellbook. Anyone know how to stop this? I sent mail to Eqtech but they are useless.

I'll bet that if you check your video card its an Intel810 chip series. Many, many people having this problem. Check the EQ technical help forum and look for posts on black boxes and Intel Vid problems. The bad news, there doesn't seem to be any fix yet.

hmm I seemed to remember reading something about problems with the F10 views, on Verant somewhere I think, possibly on the patcher. I think they said theyre trying to fix it. Sorry I can't be of more help (

I pre-ordered SoL 2 or 3 months ago and elected to pay extra for overnight shipping so I would have ASAP. Now I am being told that it wont be shipped till the 19th and my car was broken so i couldnt go out and find it at a store on release day and now that i have my car fixed there is not a single copy anywhere in town because of the people that have multiple accounts buying 3 or more copies. The manager at my local Gamestop store told me that one person even came in and bought 6 copies!!! DAMN HIM!!!!

OK as most posts are basically just people complaining, I thought I might do the opposite and try to be a little helpful, by explaining my problems and how I fixed them.

First of all, like pretty much everyone, I found it impossible to dl the patch. Upon waiting till morning, it was fine - downloaded first time. I should hope that most folks have now managed to get past this first problem, so I'll move on.

No 3D card detected. Now this one had me stumped at first, because I couldve sworn I'd just installed 8.1... but nonetheless, I dled the file, extract and wham! corrupt cabinet file. Four tries later, and I still dunno what the problem was, but I ended up downloading it on my dads comp, slapping it onto a disk and then moving it onto my own computer. extracted fine, installed fine, game loaded, logged in, and played fine. So in closing, basically 90% of peoples problems seem to be that they don't have directX 8.1 installed. The link is on verant's site, under 'installing directx 8.1' on the right hand side support column.

Now for some questions of my own. My computer currently meets every system requirement by far - except for RAM. I'm wondering, if anyone out there has actually managed to get the game running with SoL and has got it working with only 128mb of RAM - what does it run like? is it possible to display any of the new character models at all? I was hoping to sneak my way in and just dispplay the new half-elves when I get SoL myself, half-elven ranger that I am. thanks for yer reply, if anyone actually knows, and I hope some of my above info is actually of help and not just a repeat of something someone else just said...

It works with 128mb of RAM but is really laggy. As far as the character models go it recommends only displaying 2 models.

i went out to buy the d*mn SoL last night and just barely got one ( last on at Beast Buy) and get home to find out that the damn patcher was waaay too overloaded to do it now. so i waited till this morning and now i got the patch but the dang devices error alwasy comes up i called my V card manufacturer-- verant -- tech help -- and Best buy -- all to find out WTF i have to do.
they all aswered we dont now except for the V card ppl they said that verant and sony f*cked up big time and messed up some ppls hard drives even.
so now im gonna just wait like 3 days and go back to the old D2 Xpac and kill everyone with my lvl 97 zon and 99 sorc and 93 barb so if u see my account is VERANTSUX im on UsWest

Same thing happened to me. Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download DirectX 8.1 That should take care of it. =)

in about four seconds sooo many people are going to flame you but nm

it means you havent got DX8.1 installed (or so I assume). Simply go to the EQlive site, and follow the instructions for getting it, or take a look at the post above I made to see if that helps. If ye have 8.1 then my next guess would be that you don't have a powerful enough video card, but thats only speculation.

My fiancee and I both installed SoL yesterday...my computer downloaded the patches just fine. However his computer says it's going to take 34 hours to download and wants to download files he already had...like all the texture files he installed from the Luclin CDs...any suggestions? BTW his system meets all the minimum specs...my system doesn't and I have no problem.

Yeah, my machine did about the same thing as your fiancee's at first, but I cancelled, rebooted, and restarted the patch. Then it indicated it would now be 20-some-odd hours to complete.

Shortly after that, though, it corrected itself to about an hour and 40 minutes. That's about how long I think it took... I fell asleep in my chair, actually... but it was done two hours later when I woke up and checked.

Huh. Until your post, I had thought maybe everybody got that because of the heavy load on the patch servers.

Well i did it, I got in. After spending the weekeing getting all the driver upgrades and preparing myself for the launch, i was all set to download the new patch yesterday. After 20+ tries i gave up. Trying to download that patch reminded me of the definition of insanity "doing the same action over and over again and expecting a different result" I gave up after multiple crashes and freezes of my computer and did the smart thing. I got up at 6:00 this morning and ran the patcher before work. WOW that patched fast with no problem! This afternoon, I was able to log on but it seems no one else was. 2 people in East Commonlands, 10 in LOIO, 0 in Frontier mountians... I hope more people get there machians up and running cause its gonna stink if i have to solo with my cleric.

This may help some of you. If you get the 'no 3d devices' message when you get past the patcher, but you are sure your vid card and drivers are correct... try running DXdiag and do ALL the graphics and sound tests it can do. I did this, and even though I had no errors from the tests, it is the only thing that got me online. Goodluck everyone.

ok....seems to patch ok....get to where the license screen is....just get hthe ole hourglass cursor and blackness, finally use the 3 finger salute, get Everquest (Not Responding)...I blast out of there. Ive got 512 RAM, Elsa Erazor X2 vid, 850 MHZ proc. My EQ ran flawlessly b4 the patch,,,ive done all i kin think of...downlaoaded latest vid drivers, got Directx8.1, even chaged refresh rates for my card and monitor...same probs...heh...heck, I even reinstalled EQ...smame probs...oh yeah...did a thorough file check a few times for good measure....AND emailed the techies, tho i can imagine they are busier than a onelegged man in an asskikking contest at the moment...more ideas? Ive got SoL on order, not here yet...maybe the install of that will work...Kinda sux, cuz even if I didnt want SoL, I STILL cant gtet on EQ....(big sigh).....any CONSTRUCTIVE ideas? (dont really want another moronic response where someone tells me to review the website and follow directions (did that), or someone telling me my machine is poopy)....BTW, my wife is LOVING this...shes an EQ hater from way back!

A simple confession. I am not very computer literate. Ok there, I said it. I have just bought a new, and expensive, labtop that I have been playing Everquest on. I still haven't managed to download the Luclin stuff because despite getting their zipped everquest.exe it still doesn't ******* work almost every time, and when it does it crashes. I don't own SoL (yet) I just want to play. I have 124mgb of ram and a generic 3d card that came with the labtop. Like I said it has allowed me to play until now. Okay....here is my question. First, if anyone has some general advice I would really appreciate it. Second, how difficult is it to upgrade the RAM, video card on a labtop? I am willing to put in the money (my investment in time and money on the character is worth it). I just don't know what the hell I am doing.

I'm not really that computer literate either but since there do not seem to be many people answering posts (probably because they are airing their own grievances and the fact that most people don't seem to know what's going on) I'll try to answer your questions as best I can. 1. Downloading the patch - I have a T1 connection but could not download the patch during daytime CST. I had no problems dowloading it in the samll hours so this is probably a load issue. 2. Sony doesn't support laptops but in any case, 124MB (128?) of Ram would not be enough on a laptop since performance is always lower than a desktop of comparable spec. 3. It's not very difficult upgrading the Ram or replacing the video card of a laptop, all you have to do is take it to a registered dealer for your brand of laptop and they will add Ram and/or replace the video card in about half an hour. I think adding Ram will definately be required in your case but since you already have a 3D Video card, I would hold of replacing it until Sony sorts out the current problems.

Not to disagree with you, but generally laptops cannot get upgraded video cards. There are exceptions to every rule of course, but most laptops have integrated video cards which means swapping the motherboard with a newer one. Usually the company releases a new line of computers instead.

Ok, I am certain other people have had this problem...but is there an answer?

I have had directx 8.1 for 2 weeks
I have updated the latest drivers

I still get the error-no3d device

any ideas? or does verant expect to lose a ton of customers?

That is wierd i have a amd 650...ati radeon 64mb video card and only 368? mb ram and downladed the directx8.1 and updated video drivers fer my card and am workin fine...try gettin vidoe card updates to see if it helps

My PC spec is Athlon 1GHz with 384Mb of RAM. I have DirectX 8.0 but when I try to install the 8.1 version it tells me that I either have not enough space (still 4Gb left!!) or that I have a corrupt Cabinet file.

Is there anyone out there who has experienced the same problem?

Please help, I want my kitty....

I just spent a freakin arm and a leg on my new system - P4 1.7 - 256MB PC800 ram - Geforce 3 64DDR- etc, etc. I've been having the 3d card not found errors, and have dloaded the necessary patches but havent installed them yet. Just sayin that if its choppy for me, Im gonna havta kill somthing!

I have a lowly PII 366 with 128MB RAM And a voodoo3 Banshee, but I'm getting crazy black boxes around everything, and it's not much fun. I decided to go to everquestlive.com and see what they offered, so I download the "new" drivers they recommend for a voodoo3 banshee, and while reading the README file, it specifically explains that this set of drivers is for DirectX 7.0. Am I missing something here, or were'nt we all supposed to get DX8.1? Is this to problem or do all of us suck horribly?

I share your pain. I have the directx8.1, but do not have SOL (hmmm wonder about that acronymn). When I patched and got to the character screen there were black boxes covering all of the character names. When I clicked on a character, I get a message "Entering Luclin" (thought I'd be entering Norrath). When I pop in, my screen is black, there are black boxes on all macros and around all spells. I camped and went to tech chat and saw that several were having black box issues. Hopefully VI will fix the prob. :(

The black boxes version of EQ is playable if you move from standard to fullscreen with the F10 command. Some stuff is covered but you can cast and attack as well as most of the other features. Still a pain though.

I have a pentium 3 with no graphics card and lots of RAM and have those stinking black boxes too.

At least we are able to play, but it is UGLY and a real drop in fun! Hurry up Verant and clean this mess up.

So far I've reloaded windows98 twice, reloaded latest video drivers,and latest sound drivers, and DX8.1 3times, deleted and forced download of dx8dll 4 times, used advenced to check all patches except Luclin(which I don't have yet), put my character back to 640-480 video mode, and back to single layer clouds, and I still can't walk (not run) 100ft from Surefall Glade without getting dumped back to my desktop. I've been working on this thing for the last 10 hours trying to get it to run. The only thing I don't have is 512megs of ram.(I've got 256megs). All the rest of my equipment far exceeds requirements so I'm going to lay this back in Verants lap. When we beta'd the upgrades to FighterAce, we had a duplicate set of servers and invited all who would to crash it and report... but that was free to them; they weren't paying customers. The same went for Age of Empires. We had a few problems when it went live on the permanent servers but nothing like what I'm experiencing now. My god, I am experienced with this sort of thing and I can't get it up and running... I wonder what the poor slob who is not that computer literate is suffering? Verant better get with it quickly or they will lose a lot of customers because most will just give up and go somewhere else. There, I feel better now.

I got the 'no 3d devices' message the first time I got to past the download last night(no SoL, just regular Velious expansion). I ran dxdiag, and did all the 3d graphics and sound tests it can do. There were no problems or errors, but the next time I got past the patch I got online. You could try running those tests if you havent already, before you buy a new vid card. :) I was using GeForce 2 btw.
