Day 1 of Actually Playing...

Well, finally got in late yesterday and was able to create my character "Dyr" on Azahi, where I planned on playing. Alas, Azahi is MIA today... you'd think they'd be better at wiping it after beta... heh ;) So I fired up Dyr on another server L-something, can't remember right now. In my wanderings, and talking to people who are meeting the game for the first time, I found a few things constantly being asked. Here's a few tips for the new player of SWG. First thing.. if you're playing a combat class, find a crafter and get them to make you a gun. Crafters can generally be found in cities kneeling while surveying. They need the XP for the gun, you need a better weapon - should be able to get it cheaply. Next, if you're an artisan. Make your own survery tools and crafting kit as soon as possible. This will grant you meager amounts of crafting xp as you use them. also if, like me - you play a variety of skills. (I'm medic/pistol/scout for fast solo play), be sure to replace your crafting kit with one from an artisan - make friends fast. One of the first things I did was make a friend of an artisan, so I could buy inorganics to make stimpacks with. They needed money to train, basically it was one additional Mission for me in the starting hours. I've been running missions constantly however, since the first skillups come so fast, and training is so expensive. when you need training, use the community tool to try to track down someone of your class and see if they can train you rather than an NPC. Even if you tip them a couple hundred credits for the training it's cheaper than getting it from the NPCs. In order to train another player, you just group with them and select teach from the radial menu when it pops up. The student will recieve an option to learn the skill. (I'm bringing this up because I've spend about 10k in training so far today... :) travel: it's expensive. In order to travel around on the same planet, use the shuttle ports, they're much cheaper than the space ports. Wookiees: one of the drawbacks for starting with a stat pool of 6100 vs 5400 is that noone can understand you, and you can't speak basic. first chance you get, group with someone who can teach you basic. Unless of course you like to be completely unintelligable. Missions: when you start, you can handle level 8 destroy missions. Look for ones with lairs named after the monsters near town. Now, when you refresh missions, you'll loose one from the list, eventually there won't be any left to select - even if you haven't accepted a mission. Log in and out quickly to fix this. (SHIFT+ESC for the game-exit button) Even though missions are a little silly, do them - you need money. Hope that helps everyone as you discover the world. --Illia (Dyr on Lowca) (and see Rhapsody on Lowca for excellent weapons weapon powerups, and bone armour!)
