SOE Currently Has 'No ETA' on Game Services

SOE downtime continues as they work to secure information.

UPDATE, May 4: SOE has answered some common questions about the attack.

As we previously reported, all Sony Online Entertainment services, games, forums and web sites went offline this morning as a result of the recent Playstation Network intrusion. SOE issued an announcement which revealed that personal information had been compromised.  Players were, for the most part, relieved that credit card information was safe, but wanted to know when they could play their games.  The press release only said, "Our teams are working around the clock on this, and services will be restored as soon as possible."

We shot off a quick e-mail to John "Smed" Smedley, president of Sony Online Entertainment, asking if the servers would be back up tonight, May 2.  He quickly replied with, "They won't be up tonight unfortunately."

SOE is granting customers 30 days of additional time on their subscriptions, in addition to compensating them one day for each day the system is down.

Specifically to Monkiskewl 90 monk Firiona vie...Asshat.

For everyone else...all emails addresses from SoE will end with @soe.sony.com I wouldn't even open anything claiming to be from them that didn't.
Thanks

Thank you Sony! You are doing your best and the majority of us know this. I an sure the ****** whiners on here would have been happy to just continue playing and gotten ripped off. You do your best and it is appreciated.

I'm so glad to at least get some sort of response on when this will be up, even if it was just "not tonight". I dont ask for much, just keep us up to date on the progress. Just a little info goes a long way.

Lets see... few down days while SoE pays 3rd party people to help... or logging in to find no gear, or no toons, or your account has been sold on e-bay.

Since it was not SoE's fault someone hacked them , and they are obviously doing the best course of action by shutting things down, I think not only are they due some slack , but understanding.

Its not easy being the victim of any crime , nor is it easy to tell millions of people that their personal information might be in the hands of criminals, let alone the thousands of actual bank accounts stolen. This is NOT something solved in a few hours.

I imagine part of the 3rd party investigation will be in testing the new security , which again , will take time. I dont think anything will be back up until SoE can assure its customers in good faith that they are as secure as they can reasonably be.

Some people are never happy and always want to bash others. They are doing the best they can to get the game back up and protect you. Would you be happier if you could just keep playing and they just ignored the issue for your convenience? I want to play too but, I want this security issue fixed even more. It is after all a game. This'll give you a chance to go outside in the sun and maybe get rid or your undead pallor.

The potential misuse of the information stolen is a very bad thing.

A bigger lollipop than double XP and 30 days tacked on to your sub (as someone else said... tack it onto now (a month free) rather than after a person decides to stop playing) is needed. It's a minor difference, but the optics are significant.

Double Xp happens all the time. This is save-the-marriage apology time:

-3 weeks of "lava xp 10x mod rate"
-All named all drops on loot tables every time 15 min respawns
-Fabled
-every /claim item you have ever had (including LoN) is duplicated back onto your account to reclaim
-"hackers bad, customers good" /claim item is the trivial to most epic 2.0 for whatever class --let's most give it to an alt they might not have got around to doing it for.
-accounts active during the "evil days of Hackdom" are allowed a one-time taboo race-class combo. You finally can make that dark-elf ranger...

I'm sure others can make the list even better.

What is pathetic is your post. Millions of customers I'm sure are concerned over their private data being stolen and Sony is on top of it. You should be mad at the scum that hacked your data, not Sony. But of course you probably use your moms credit card to pay for your account.
Excellent work!

To give credit where credit is due, two players in IRC forwarded me similar mails from Smed before I did so. I like my info straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak :)
