Always After Me Lucky Charms

SOE unveiled the newest twist in the forthcoming Legacy of Ykesha expansion--the new "Charms" inventory slot. If you thought the charms were just going to be another ol' piece of armor or jewelry, think again. Charms will be able to sense the world around them and affect it in directed ways. Charms appear as if they will increase in power depending on a certain factor or factors--examples given were wealth, hiding/sneaking ability, and wearing pieces of similar armor. There is also a "rumor" mentioned by SOE that some charms will only work with weapons or armor made by the same crafter who made the charm, and that the more of the crafter's armor the charm detects being worn by its owner, the stronger the charm will become. This could be the first step toward a more personalized and malleable tradeskill system, something that definitely seems to be the emerging trend in MMORPG's. Check out SOE's info page about charms here.

Maker Specific Charms

The whole idea that if you wear armor by a certain maker, and then wear their charm, has me rather worried. It's going to harm those with lower skill lvl possibly. Say you've got a 250 blacksmith who makes armor and charms, and sells them as a package. Then you've got a lower lvl smith who makes the first lvl cultural, but may not have the ability to make the charm. People are only going to buy armor from the one who can make the charm, otherwise it will be a waste of potential stats/effects/etc.

I sure hope they put the charms at a reasonable trivial level...
