Cryptic To Sponsor GenCon 2008

Not only did Cryptic announce today that it would be a sponsor for Gen Con Indy 2008, but they are the official sponsor of the Gen Con eGame Arena. Awesome! Thanks, Cryptic!

Los Gatos, CA - July 31, 2008 - Cryptic StudiosTM, a leading independent developer and publisher of massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs), announced today that it is a Contributing Sponsor of Gen Con Indy 2008, the original, longest running, best attended gaming convention in the world, which will be held in Indianapolis on August 14-17, 2008. Cryptic also is the official sponsor of the Gen Con eGame Arena, where attendees are invited to plug into a variety of electronic games during the convention and after hours.

"It's great to have a company like Cryptic, with such a strong tie to pen-and-paper gaming, co-sponsoring this year's Gen Con," said Adrian Swartout, president of Gen Con. "Their commitment to putting the gamer first and creating fantastic gaming experiences are at the heart of what Gen Con is all about."

Cryptic will also have a presence on the Gen Con show floor, where attendees will have the first opportunity to play the highly-anticipated MMO Champions Online, which is being published by 2K Games. Based on the popular ChampionsTM pen-and-paper RPG, Champions Online will give players the power of total customization for their hero experience while they explore a vast comic book universe. Gen Con attendees also are invited to the Cryptic booth for frequent trivia contests, giveaways and to play the original Champions pen-and-paper RPG with Steve Long and Darren Watts, founders of Hero Games, the company that publishes the RPG books. Champions Online is being developed for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Games for Windows-LIVE®, and is scheduled for release in spring of 2009.

Numerous Cryptic executives and developers will have a large presence on the various speaking panels at Gen Con 2008, including Jack Emmert, chief creative officer, who will be honored at the convention as an Industry Insider Guest of Honor.

Celebrating its 41st year and going strong, Gen Con is no ordinary convention. Attendees do everything from browsing the aisles of an exhibit hall packed with more than 300 booths to taking part in any number of the 5,000 gaming events happening 24 hours a day during the four days. Gaming activities range from interactive game play and computer gaming to big money hobby-related tournaments.
