EQ Mac Goes Retail

Everquest is now available for Macintosh users. My understanding is that Mac players will get their own separate server, but otherwise the game will be identical to the PC version. Here's the press release: Sony Online Entertainment Inc. (SOE) is pleased to announce that EverQuest(TM) Macintosh Edition is now available at retail. For the first time, over 25 million Apple Macintosh gamers running OS X will be able to experience the leading massively multiplayer online role-playing game. EverQuest Macintosh Edition carries a suggested retail price of $49.99 and includes a 30 day subscription to the game. With compelling content, top-notch customer service and an online world that continues to expand and improve, EverQuest is one of the largest fantasy worlds ever created online. EverQuest is a real-time 3D massively multiplayer online role-playing game where hundreds of thousands of players come together to take on the personas of brave warriors and mystical wizards then adventure across the face of a huge world (as well as its moon and extra-planar zones), fighting hordes of monsters and uncovering treasure troves of magical artifacts. EverQuest Macintosh Edition includes: EverQuest® Classic and its first four expansions: The Ruins of Kunark®, The Scars of Velious®, The Shadows of Luclin(tm) and The Planes of Power(tm). About EverQuest Developed and published by Sony Online Entertainment Inc. (SOE), EverQuest launched in 1999 and has since become both a gaming and cultural phenomenon. That's another reason Mac users should be grateful for their own server - no gratuitous, snarky comments from Wintel drones.

They should just pile all the Macs up in a big fields somewhere and burn them all...
Not so bad

I dunno. Apparently there are a variety of technical reasons that a joint server couldn't be implemented. (First and foremost is that the Mac version lags behind the PC version by six months or so.) What's more, many (most?) Mac users - such as myself - had no experience with EQ at all. It's awfully nice being able to start off in a quiet server populated with a bunch of lower-level characters, and really work into the game, collectively, from the ground up.
SOE Mistake

Bad move, SOE. Mac players shouldbe able to play with their PC friends who have been raving about EQ for years, instead of alienating them.
Too late

Well I bought a Windows PC to play EQ. Otherwise I use my Macs. Too little too late, I will be staying with my guild and friends. A badly thought out Sony idea. Why would I give up my lvl 60 characters? They could have integrated us and I could have dumped the windows PC.

Nerfed before it's started. Nice one Sony!!
