December 19th Patch: Casino MIA

From the patch message: ----- We're sorry to have to say this, but the new casino has become too popular. The huge number of players gambling at the casino is causing issues with the servers, and has been responsible for a few zone crashes. Unfortunately, this means that we have had to remove the casino NPCs until after the New Year arrives. * Other Changes * - Cancel magic will no longer remove disciplines or melee abilities. - Fixed a bug that was causing the party to be unable to see hit point updates for the last person to join their group. - Healing Will and Focused Will now stack with most other hit point regeneration effects. - Corrected a bug that was causing AAs to increase the duration of combat abilities. - We have reorganized the context menu for Disciplines to make it a bit more logical. -----

THIS REALLY SUCKS!!! i dont like complaining a lot and i dont like hearing others complain, but i have been over seas in iraq for quite a while, and now that i am back, all of my stuff is gone, and with all of the prices going back up, how is a naked ogre supposed to get back to his rich lil life with no equipment? SOE needs to quit putting such an influence on the bazaar and more on questing, it is after all everQUEST

Hey there soldier, what's your characters name and what server do you play on? I might be able to help you out or you might find someone else willing to help you out here... To the "everQUEST" idea, if none of us can help you.. all I can say is your going to have to follow your own idea.. sorry for your misfortune.

Criimzon Kniight, lv47 human sk, Drinal Server, as well as a few char.'s on every other server..

I used to play EQ....I hated every minute..only got a warrior ( worst class in EQ ) to 50.

I heard all these stories about how they were great once you hit 60+...but that never came...I died one too many times to a freaking -easy- con, and i just quit one day.

The thing about EQ is that it has gone WAY to far in every respect.

90% of the people on servers are like ultra bipolar patients at a psych ward. They will pretend to be nice, but the minute you do something they don't like -BAM- you've been blacklisted for life and from ever joining so and so's magical guild.

don't get me wrong, I'm no newbie...I don't shout around zones about the hypocritical attitudes of these same 90% of the server...I keep quiet, i learn about things, i play the game.

But having spent a casual 6 months leveling that warrior, with no twinking, at all... I found EQ to be nothing more than a pathetic existence..

The Planes were supposed to be the last expansion...HAH !

The economy ? The economy has broken since the 2nd year of the game's release.

As for class balance...theres no winning arguement...all I ever wanted was for my WARRIOR to be able to the job of a traditional WARRIOR. Hack a guy with a sword and kill him. Atleast a freaking EASY CON ! seriously...

Anyways, I've played UO, DAoC, Planetside, Galaxies, and currently FFXI since EQ, and I must say...EQ is by far, a deeper game, with many more facets to it........but I have gladly given up the corruption for the -clean- FFXI world....

....What I'm really trying to say....

The only thing that can possibly "fix" Everquest is Everquest II...but i fear that the plague of it will be the horde of corruption awaiting it's release... ( not trying to sound all LOTR here, its just the truth )

I agree. EQ right now has become too focused on no-life addicts who don't have enough IQ to comprehend a rich, deep world. I am looking forward to EQII not for so much for the graphics, or boats, or class trees, or any of that (although those definately good ideas), its the element of mystery that the new game is bound to bring. At lesat for as long I will plan on playing the game, the world wont be full of those all knowing uber twinks. There will still be strange places that no one is positive exists. Zones that are rumoured to be out there somewhere, but no one knows for sure. And at the beginning, the GMs would be on and doing there event stuff (something that has stopped completely in EQII). Basically, I'm hoping that the world is going to have a progressing storyline that is not completely based on marketting their next expansion (*cough**cough* Wayfarers *cough**cough*). Anyway, I could go on for hours about all the OTHER improvements they could make to the current EQ experience, but I'm mainly hoping for the GMs to have MORE player interaction, and have a world rich with lore and history, so that you can feel you have a reason for exploring blindly into that zone you have never heard of before.

I agree with the Bipolar part, but i would say it is less than 90%. maybe a good 60%. You mean so many more of the them though doing adventures, last night I had a convseration with someone about the bad people we have met while doing adventures, we came up with a couple of the same people.

I think they need to bring the casino back to get more of the plat out of the game, it's obvious that there is to much in the game as is, make people go and hunt for the plat, the items and the components for tradeskills. I hunt for almost all my tradeskill items, While running through Gfay, if i see a wasp i kill it for wings, so I can make lures, If i see a spiderling, I kill if for silks, you can't always hunt for an item, but at the same time, i really dont feel like paying 100pp for a stack for 20 silks which I can get for free after spending an hour or 2 hunting. Though, what worries me about the casino is that with people having less plat, they might bring thier bazaar prices up more to compensate for lost plat, so people will pay 200pp for a stack of silks now, We will see what happens if, and when it comes back. Lets just hope it results in either, more hunting for items, and cheaper/reasonable prices.

If you care so little about the game, why are you even here? If you dislike the game, go play the ones you enjoy and dont take the fun out of a game someone else likes. I disagree completely with your assumption that 90% of people who play EQ are, "ultra bipolar patients at a psych ward." There are people like that EVERYWHERE in this world. You make EQ sound like it's the general congregation of them. Not true.

The way to fix the casino problem is basically the same way they should have fixed the Bazaar problems. Put a casino in every major city. They could also put a Bazaar tent in every major city, and when you're in this area of the city you can do a /bazaar lookup and it lists the character and which bazaar location he/she is in. No more lag in Bazaar or the casino.

Letter to SOE

Well here I sit on another interesting EQ evening.
1. It has take me 5 min to even get on
2. On less time than it took to login and I ‘m trying again
3. Now I start over
4. Wooot I’m in again no I out again tried to zone!!!!!
5. Finally in again great now I get in some game time, damn out again stupid me tried to zone again
6. Well here I am again I have logged in 4 times to cross 3 zone ( each login several min) sitting in POK
7. Now I’m out again what an exciting evening I am having could have been watching paint dry.

Now ask yourself. Is this your idea of a way to spend an evening? Be real honest now. I am not you average junkie player (I don’t think). I have had to schedule my time carefully to have this bit of an evening to relax and do something I really enjoy. I go to the server status section of your web sight tells me all servers are up, I try to login and everything is locked. Can you see anything wrong here? If you were to have some indication on your web sight that there were problems than I could have spent my time with a good book or movie rather than being played like an idiot in front of computer screen, trying to get into a game that is screwed “again”.

It would be oh so nice if you would show just a smidgen of appreciation for the value of you customers times. After all not all of us are the bug-eye junkie type with no life other than EQ (maybe this is how you see your customers).

As I see it Sony has become so driven by expansions that you are failing to fix what is wrong with the old before moving on. You are now head long into new expansion, and you have 3 or 4 old ones that are not working. You have competitors out there now putting out maybe not a superior product but one that at least it work when if goes live. How long is it now since you actually had a patch that worked? You go live with problems that you know were on test yet neglecting to fix them. Than down the road when you decide to fix an on going problem you end up causing hours of play time going to waste, can you not see time is of value? It does not matter what product or service you sell in the end it is always the one that respects the customer and functions with the least trouble for the customer that will win out in the end.

Sony gets paid their monthly fee if I play 1 hour that month or 101 hours. Now I would feel much better, and less upset and stressed with Sony if I could actually play for my time. Not be dying due to lag and LDing, not spending a large portion of my scheduled game time logging in and getting booted. I guess my concern is (as I love EQ) how long do you actually expect to be able to maintain you present level of clients, when the quality of your product continues to fall. My fear is when you wake up to smell the coffee my game will be no more. When it starts to lose money someone is going to pull the plug than I will be forced to move on. My decision is now do I stick with a sinking ship investing my time, or do I abandon ship and go invest my time with something I can see that may have a longer future.

As a customer purchasing quality leisure time, I feel I should have some value to Sony Online Entertainment INC. To me my time is valuable; I could be finding a better bang for my buck.

I hope you do not take this as a threat. I and a group of other players are considering starting a movement on line among existing players to boycott the purchase of any further new expansions until the issues with the old ones are dealt with. We are talking major fixes not just a few crumbs to make look like thing are getting worked on when your major effort is really expansion oriented.

I would like as some feed back on this idea here. As consumers of a product this seems to be our only option to force Sony Online Entertainment INC. to pay attention. Our only real power is in our purchase power. Come on people if we don’t buy them they won’t make them thus will have some time to fix the old problems before they move on. Do we really have the will power to stick to our gun or are we going to continue to feed Sony Online Entertainment INC. our cash and continue to only *****?

Well I do hope I have not totally wasted my evening as I am still unable to get on EQ so must go this evening was non event as far a EQ goes.

Please free to use this to post on other sites as i would like to see this become a movement

Header should read: WANT to play the casino?

As far as playing a casino, just keep in mind the odds are always stacked against you and you're MEANT to not get the payouts in the end.

While the chances are there, most people will end up spending MUCH more than the items they win are worth and because there is now a new way of getting some of these items(being in a casino as opposed to drops), anything you win will soon be worth less(because more are now entering the world).

Good luck to anyone who plays, just keep in mind the casino SOE made has a purpose and it's NOT to make us richer!

My friend was in Frontier Mountains when the server crashed on him. When he got back on he was in the middle of the zone somewhere and fell to his death for 20k damage. Of course he couldn't get ahold of a GM and lost level 55 over this. We also can't find his corpse. I can't make a corpse tracker since all 8 of my slots are taken.

We both are starting to look at other MMORPG games. I am really sick of paying $13 a month to be SOE's Beta Tester. There is no excuse for all this crap. If they would quit worrying about new targeting systems, updating spells effects (again), nerfing Warrior disc's, and making expansions every 3 months they could fix the problems they have now. This is now the 3rd time between me and my friend someone has died and been unable to recover there exp over game bugs (the other 2 times involved broken boats).

Ever notice how anytime something messes up on there end it always HURTS a player. Whens the last time you heard of somebody getting exp when the servers crashed? They make sure it screws you over if nothing else.

Sorry I sound so negative all the time, but ever since that October patch it has been one big mess.
RE: hmm
# Dec 21 2003 at 10:46 AM Rating: Decent
First off, necros and SKs can summon corpses. Why not do that?

Secondly, report it as a bug if you want, it's not going to fix anything, because a zone crashed. Deal with it, it happens. It's the price of playing EQ, there is a large population of people on the servers

Thirdly, what about the IRE "bug" that lasted 2 years? Us mages benefitted from that. It cause us to be able to kill our pets for mana, plus the EP AA allowed us to not use any components for summoning them, thus, nearly unlimited mana.

Finally, if you're going to quit, do it! I'm sick of people complaining for years! QUIT NOW if you want to SO badly! It would probably help zone crashes a bit, and ya know what? It would make people like me a LOT happier.

And yes, the classes are, more or less, balanced, IMO.

Corrected a bug that was causing AAs to increase the duration of combat abilities.

Yeah, I'm thinking that's usually a GOOD thing. So... bugs don't make good things happen... yeah, sure.

And before you say "They only fix good bugs!",
Quote:
Fixed a bug that was causing the party to be unable to see hit point updates for the last person to join their group.

And, since I have to read the patch messages FOR you, they also changed the way some stuff works so it's better for players.

For clarification purposes, the SOE EQ team isn't just ONE team. The art team (Who made the new spell effects) aren't going to be hunting down bugs and aren't exactly qualified to nerf disciplines.

You have to understand that they don't have just twenty or thirty people all doing different things. Different people who work on expansions, and different people work on bug hunting (Which is based a lot on what the Test and Live people find and report) and patches.

The completed VT key.
Lucky i guess.. I never did any player casinos. I figured "What the hell, i'll try it for a bit" after i saw one guy win a Guise of the Deciever, i got a little more addicted and spent a bit more. My 3rd to last token got the scepter.

You're kidding right? The casino dropped the VT key? Frankly even if it was just the container that still requires the Emp component and the Luclin named drop, it would still be worth a lot in terms of farming time saved. Hmm, can anyone confirm that this is available from the casino?
RE: i won a VT key
# Dec 20 2003 at 8:03 PM Rating: Default
2 questions ....

1 Is it the combine box or the Actual Key to Vex Thal?

2 How much did you spend in the Casino before you got this item?

Regardless if you spent less than 100K in getting this it is worth every penny ( copper not brass ) as it suggest that the individual pieces of the Key are also in the Casino program.

Well in the grand tradition of every post-expansion announcement patch since PoP, the servers are hosed so badly that they had to bring them all down for a third time... How does it feel alpha testing the Gates of Discord code? I know it makes me feel like I've been scammed out of a monthly fee....

Sorry, just venting. I spent the morning helping people do 1017-related CRs and now I'm locked out of my weekly experience group. :-(

Wow went to go to the casino on talon Zek. Pande had it and the casino ppl camped. OMG everyone was dead corpses all around. Had to bring a newbie in so they couldnt pvp me. No one could use the casion as soon as a caino employee poped he was killed. Logged on to my old haunts on fennin ro thinking that they might be around. Again they we all dead. Hmmm did verant really close it because to many ppl spending plat or did pande (and others) force them to try to figure out a way to stop the mass slaughter and them controlling the zone? Thats what I think!

Oh yea the Fungi is now 100k on my server. SCHW have went up from 2.5k to 3.5k+.

Im not exactly sure how the plat duped worked. I was told it involved some sort of quest you spent 10 gold on and got 10pp back in. If this is the case the people shouldn't have been banned since it was SOE who was stupid enough to have put a quest in the game like this. If Id have found this Id have done it not thinking nothing of it.
RE: oh yea
# Dec 21 2003 at 10:51 AM Rating: Decent
Uh, yeah... that's not how it worked, trust me. Also, the point of this casino was to lower the amount of plat on a server, thus the amount people were willing to pay for items, to lower prices back down to what they were before. The inflation has become insane... that's IMO.

And I can think of several quests that require running around to get money. Frankly, you should learn them... good way to get a quick couple of plat you need for that new int, str, wis, or cha item.

Yea Soe apparently isn't smart enough to realise something new like this is going to draw a large crowd. The same thing happened with the Monster Button, the PvP servers was overloaded cause everybody wanted to try it. Don't they realize that given a week or so things will calm down?

Im not going to miss the Casino. It amazes me how much plat people had to throw away. My main is 63, and I still have never had over 15k at one time. I would say if I sold everything on all my charactors my net worth in plat would be right at 50k, which is obviously nothing compared to most people. I don't see how people do it, but I really quite worrying about it a long time ago. My main problem is I have yet to guild a decent guild.

Greetings Jim. I was wondering and I cannot seem to find it on your post. What server you are on? If by the luck of the Irish, namely the little fella on my LUcky Charms box you are on Xev. Please find an Officer of the Gardens of the Savage. I being the leader of it can tell you that I am less interested in your net worth and Tommy or Fubu clothing styles in game than I am in your attititude and all around play styles. Variety is the Spice of Life. If you are not on the Xev server, then luck be with you finding a good guild that looks to the person behind the toon not his bank account.
Untill I actually feel the urge to post, this being my first post on Allakhazam, Go with Marr Jim.

Maybe I am just not understanding the Plat situation. How is the influx of plat from the cheaters any different than if someone has stashed away 500,000 plat from buying low & trading high and taken it out of the trade system for 6-7 months and then drop it back in by twinking an alternate ? Are you trying to say that per server there is ONLY, let's say for example, 300 million platinum pieces. Once 300 million platinum have been found mobs stop dropping plat ?
Someone plese explain this.

Thanks

Yes, it is different. A few people spending their stashed pp is a lot different than hundreds of people dumping newly created pp into the economy.

One of the things that makes this game interesting is a working economy. The sudden influx of huge amounts of new pp throws that economy all out of kilter. It devalues all the existing pp.

Not really good at games of chance, so the casino disappearing isn't that big a deal to me ....

As for plat floating around ... so what? It'll get distributed somehow (chaos theory). They should be more concerned about monitoring that it doesnt happen again, and about catching the culprits.

The tribute system will remove plat from the game, but it'll mean that there'll be plenty of twinked characters in-game. Damage is done IMHO ... move on and make sure it doesnt happen again, so that players like me who hve to work hard to scrape together the plat can play on.

lol... I wouldn't worry about it too much... some of the more enterprising people have taken it upon themselves to collect this extra plat thats floating around, OMG..the prices in the bazaar are mind-boggling!! 20k for a Valorium Ring of Gallantry? 80k for a fungi tunic?
On the more serious side, I think that the PTB (Powers That Be) have looked at this problem with the influx on extra plat but are a little stumped on how to fix it. An idea is to wipe the offending accounts (proven that they are beyond any doubt) of all plat, I am sure that not all of it has hit the streets of the bazaar yet.
On another topic, I am glad that this patch fixed my windows to its original state...when I logged in yesterday, my screens were completely out of order, and of course, could I remember where everything was? ... No. Its amazing that when you play everyday, the outlay is so the norm that you have to think hard about what hotbutton was there.. hehe. Well, there's my 2 CP worth of discipline, anyone else have any ideas on how to get rid of the excess plat thats circulating atm?

I don't know what server you're on that prices are going up... I see prices on a few key, high demand items going up, and every other price dropping like the proverbial other shoe....

This morning I bought a lightning shortblade for 7.5k and a dusty girdle of reformed sand for 10k... compared to even a week ago, those are absurdly low prices, and they've been coming down for months.
