RIFT Patch 2.5: Song of Dreams

Trion tests the waters in patch 2.5 of RIFT, a precursor to upcoming expansion.

RIFT, the free-to-play MMORPG by Trion Worlds, has been enjoying some Halloween content over the past few weeks. To add to the fun, Trion has teased a new patch set to release on November 6th. The game has been receiving substantial, frequent content over the past few years, and RIFT 2.5: Song of Dreams seems like it will be no exception. Back in June, Trion teased an expansion set on the Plane of Water, a realm of madness and dreams, which you can read more about over on Junkies Nation. It seems as though Trion wants to test their design ideas in the latest patch of RIFT.

RIFT's upcoming patch 2.5, Song of Dreams, is scheduled to come out on November 6th. Ember Isle, a level 50 region in the game, has been long abandoned by players, but Trion wants to bring us back with new level 60 content off the coast of the island. In what is ostensibly underwater gameplay, we can expect new dungeons, chronicles (1-2 person mini dungeons) and slivers (10 man raids in an alternate reality). It will be fascinating to see if Trion can make the usually drab underwater setting work, as they test the waters in patch 2.5.

Given the caliber of recent RIFT patches, I have high expectations for the latest content. As someone who generally dislikes underwater zones in games, and particularly underwater movement, I hope that RIFT can do something to address the sluggish movement speeds and uncomfortable camera angles players often have to deal with. If you are interested in playing RIFT, you can check it out on Steam or on the official website. For more information regarding the patch stay tuned to Trion's blog.
