April 28th Patch Notes

April 28th, 2004 ---------------------- Headlines! - A new storybook has arrived! Make sure you read it to find out what Tondal is up to now. - A new adventure zone is live on Stormhammer! - A new adventure zone has moved from Stormhammer to Live! - What are the "HOT SPOTS"? - Plane of Knowledge open to everyone! New Adventure Zone goes to Stormhammer ----------------------- - We have added a new adventure zone which should be a challenge for 2 groups of about 50th level. A party of adventurers is missing and was last seen working with the undead. Will you brave the catacombs to find them? New Adventure Zone moves to Live ----------------------- - The adventure zone currently on Stormhammer will move to live servers. You can visit the Lost Pyramid of Galuuk Korr. This midlevel adventure zone will allow you to explore a monument from the lost elvish city of Takish Hiz! Now you must find what was left beneath the sands. Good luck. Hot Spots ----------------------- Try out the new Hot Spot zones which give a boost to Experience while adventuring in them, in a similar manner to Paludal Caverns. The current Hot Spots are: - The Castle of Mistmoore (20th to 30th level) - The Lair of the Splitpaw (35th to 45th level) - Dulak's Harbor (40th to 45th level) - The Tower of Frozen Shadow (30th to 35th level) - The Gulf of Gunthak (35th to 40th level) - Hate's Fury (55th to 60th level) - The Crypt of Nadox (50th to 55th level) - The Torgiran Mines (45th to 50th level) These Hot Spot zones are generally aimed at characters level 20 to 51. The Hot Spot zones will shift from time to time, so watch for messages giving clues as to where the new ones may be. Plane of Knowledge ----------------------- All EQ characters can now access the Plane of Knowledge whether they have purchased Planes of Power or not! General ----------------------- - We have decreased load times when zoning. Gates Sewers and Vxed ----------------------- - Rare NPCs in the Gates sewers and Vxed will not spawn at the creation of the expedition zone. They will now spawn after the zone has been occupied for some time. Items ----------------------- - Skill percent-mods now work for Ammo slot items. - Grand Tunic of the Oracle and the Grand Robe of the Oracle have had a type 7 augmentation slot added to them. - Lungi of the Forbidden will display a robe graphic once again. Monks and Beastlords will be able to swap the robe in for a leather looking BP with the same stats by visiting Garath the Trader in East Wastes. You will be able to swap the items back and forth with Garath for your desired look. (Lungi? Lungi? What is a Lungi?) Spells ----------------------- - Characters in illusion form can again be targeted. - Bull Rush is now a magical resist. Please do not use in a china shop. - Balance of the Nihil has had its Mana and Slow percentage increased. Tracking ----------------------- - More NPC's in Qinimi now leave tracks for trackers to find. Firiona Vie ----------------------- - The Shuriken of Eternity and Ton Po's Mystical Pouch are now no-drop.

So the only way into this new zone is doing a LDON at midlevel?
Sham or Shame?

Well I'm gonna put in my two cents on this one... I last night took my 54 Beast and 54 Cleric to Nadox... we got 1% per kill. Which is actually better than what I was getting in PoJ or PoI or PoD. It's a step in the right direction. A step.

I think of all the unused zones.. and all the unaccessable play areas. SoE has shot itself in the foot so many times with so many zones...

Whats the point of King Grobb's Gorge if there have been 2 people in the zone all year but you can find 90 in Pal caverns on any given weekday night... I think this whole hotzone thing will get people moving around. But its a bandaid on problem thats gonna need a whole bunch O stitches. These zones need revamp, more solo areas added, update and upgrade the loot to be on par with todays game. Adjust the exp in all of these zones to balance them to what they are in these hot zones.

Last but surely not least... They need to add some low level raid zones... training zones.. starting level 30 ish... that block out higher levels... mini raids.

anyone else know how much the xp bonus seems to be? worth going out of the way or not?

People seem to be increasingly impatient with their character development. We gotta get our characters up to Planes levels ASAP - no time for quests, travelling, or exploring. This impatience is due partly to the monotony of the game mechanics. If you could do the same darn thing 40 times instead of 50 to advance your character, why not!

In addition to what Astrokick suggested, they ought to give substantial experience bonuses for completing quests, and upgrade the loot/gear rewards for them too. If you spend two hours completing a quest at level 15, you ought to get a level of experience for it. Why should camping bandits in Paludal be more rewarding than anything else in the game?

That's a great idea... People dont bother with quests because spending 16 hours and risking death for items substandard to common drops or what is bought and sold in the bazaar would be stupid.

So I have choices... I can run my own quests... while my friends quickly pass me just by fighting and making experience... and as they level better item drops become naturally available to them as they just move around... Or I can just level myself and farm items once I'm 60-65 and eventually save enough to arm a twink.... or I can buy some PP today on the net get all the gear I want, and level up as fast as possible without any extra time or effort.

Quests right now really are a huge waste of time... Looking at the GoD drops and the PoP drops.. really you dont need to quest... You need to suck up to some uber guild... get your flags and access and just hang out with them long enough for your slots to fill. Questing is a complete waste of time for the most part with few exceptions. A person can easily ignore it and would probably be better off for doing so in the long run if their goals are getting good exp and armor.

If a quest takes you 30 game hours to complete and requires that you get the help of 14 people... and you have to wait on several spawns days... weeks... sometimes months then I definately agree that the risk and effort should balance with the reward... I can't remember the last time I saw my exp bar move from a quest... had to be over 4 years ago with they nurfed Tumpy's Tonics.

I say you spend 30 game hours on a quest then you should at least get the equivalent of 10-20% of what you would have spent those 30 hours killing blue mobs which at lvl 30 3 good hours will get you 20-40% of your level which I dont think is asking too much... For someone to level a character up this way it would still take alot longer than just fighting for the experience, but at least quests wouldn't be a completely pointless time sink experience wise.

Yeah I know sitting around waiting for mob isn't exactly super risky... I know that running from town to town isn't that risky either... but how risky is it to fight blue mobs at lvl 30 with 500k in gear and your 65 druid watching over you... we have to balance risk/reward and EFFORT.

I have 4 eq acounts (thats right 4), I also have 3 computers. My computers arnt top notch but there not bad either. My main computer is a 3.2ghz P4, 1gig DDR400ram, raid 0 array using 2 sata 80 gig drives, and a TI4600 graphics card(granted this is an old graphics card).

Now with all graphics models off and no shading or any particle effects on and everything else i can find that has anything to do with enhancing the graphics i still freeze up. No matter what computer i use, the one posted above or my other two i still freeze when i wander around Plane of Knowledge.

There are some zones that i can wander around in all day and not have any problems, my main problem seems to be in PoK. I can be just turning in a circle and freeze. I can just be sitting in one spot without touching my keyboard and sooner or later i freeze.

I'm in agreement that it is the graphics that are messing things up. How to fix it i have no idea. Who is to blame for this, i would say it is the update to the graphics engine.

My 2 cents worth

your main problem seems to be in PoK. guess what!! behind the bazaar the pok is the most populated zone in the game. A better graphics card doesn't make all that much of a difference frames per second wise. It may make you go 20% faster in a populated zone. but that it. The speed of connection and hard drive rpm speed seem to make a difference to me. thats my own 2 cents

bah! 4 accounts? I have 5

2 computers

3200+ A64
1gb ddr 166 (nearly 7gb/sec)
dual 36.7gb 10k rpm wd raptors in a raid-1
geforce fx 5500 256

2400+ Athlon xp
512mb ddr 400
30gb 7200 wd
geforce fx 5200 128

no problems with direct x 9 with those two cards. But stay away from the GeForce 4 Mx-440 that pos was crashing on my 5+ times a day also stay away from ATI based cards.

And I hate quest too b/c of the worthlessness of doing them. The nice quested items are way to hard to get and the others...not worth getting. I think they should add epic spells/armor for all the classes 1 for each. if they did that maybe warriors would be able to maintain argo again...epic "spell" for them drain sta and produce an effect that generated argo for them once a tick for x amount of ticks.
RE: grafix so what

Seems to be only a problem on Nvidia cards. I have an old school 4600Ti that will crash all the time in PoK my other is a ATI 9800 Pro no problems at all in any zone. Of course the question is why won't it crash in the nexus where there are normally around 400-500 people there at all times and will only crash near the bank in PoK where there are 50-60 max.
RE: grafix so what

PoK seems to be the only zone I freeze in as well. the only way I have found to not freeze in PoK is to change my view orientation (F9 key once) and view everything from the top. Though once you get close to the library the freezing comes back even in that mode. Eventhough the Bazaar has not lagged as bad since they changed to DX9.

Just throwing in my two cents. I use the same card listed above (the 9800) and it appears you may just be lucky because sure enough, I freeze in PoK at random times. Never anywhere else, just in PoK. Nothing seems to trigger it, and nothing seems to prevent it, but it happens quite offen on both of my computers.

Ihave one of the fastest systems know at 3.2, 1 gig DDRm emm, Nivida 5950 ultra and since 2 patches ago lag bad and freeze up having to reboot system and sometimes it takes 30 min for toon to finally log. I have only been stuc once but would trade taht for lagging and freezing.

I belevie its a typo. cause if you read the top of the patch message it says:

- A new adventure zone is live on Stormhammer!
- A new adventure zone has moved from Stormhammer to Live!

but further down it says
New Adventure Zone goes to Stormhammer
-----------------------
- We have added a new adventure zone which should be a challenge for 2 groups of about 50th level.
A party of adventurers is missing and was last seen working with the undead. Will you brave the catacombs to find them?

New Adventure Zone moves to Live
-----------------------
- The adventure zone currently on Stormhammer will move to live servers. You can visit the Lost Pyramid of Galuuk Korr. This midlevel adventure zone will allow you to explore a monument from the lost elvish city of Takish Hiz! Now you must find what was left beneath the sands. Good luck.

Maybe someone should check out the BB Ldons cause Sony might have gotten them mixed up. Its only a guess but ya never know. =p

With all this crap they've added, have they fixed any of those bugs with people getting stuck in trees and the ground and such? There have been several other problems of late, just wondering if they've done anything about them.

Sony's continued attempt

Sony's continued attempt to accelerate leveling.

From 1 handed swords that can be equipped and proc at level one to new hot spots for leveling.

Does Sony want us to get bored with EQ?

Ah! I see so we'll pay up for EQII. I get it.

Net, for a casual play like me, its great. I spend my 1 to 3 hours a week playing. After 4 years I may get my main above lv35 (2nd main the 1st was retired, he was constructed poorly).

Net for Sony good strategy.

they are just under utilized zones.. xp modifiers have been introduced to these type zones since at least kunark.. give incentive for playing in areas that 200 other people are not

It is not so much them wantng us to get bored as much as they want to res(i love the fact i can short hand that) old, popular zones. It is like... well... the only zone i can talk about is unrest, it use to be great (befor Luclin). But now it is unpopular. So like all stars that once were, it wants to be a star again. Sony has taken some of these and made EXP have a boost.

That is what the 5 year thing did for many zones (meaning frog town mostly, but goblin city as well).

I dunno, thats just my 2cp.

They are not saying that the level range of ToFS is 30-35. This means that only characters in that range will get the exp bonus here.

The new zone of the Lost Pyramid of Galuuk Korr
# Apr 28 2004 at 12:50 PM Rating: Default
Anyone find this zone yet??? and if so where is it located in? I was assuming somewhere in North or South Ro and/or Oasis of Marr as that's the locations of the Tak LDoNs and figuring this new zone specifically mentioned something to do with that long ago lost elvish realm that it may be found in one of these 3 zones. I have not had the time to locate it yet as i quickly ran thru all 3 zones with no such luck. Anyone shed some light on this topic for me? Thx

Adventure zone, as in LDoN.

I looked for the new zone. It may not be an instanced zone because "This midlevel adventure zone will allow you to explore a monument from the lost elvish city of Takish Hiz!" implies that it is for characters in the 30s-40s. My understanding is that ldon has consistent zones that are populated by mobs of levels appropriate to the level of the party that enters it.

Aye that also made me think that the zone was not a LDoN, being midlevel and all, also in the patch, grand tunic of the Oracle and robe of the Oracle got Slot 7's added, now from Lore and such the next part of the Pylatery quest, is Mirguals Pylatery buried underneith the sands of the Ro desert, so that does make me think it was a normal zone, but it seems after lookin over and over... adventure zone... so thats not a new zone they added, perhapps something odd may drop in it, but to randomly get it, not even worth the effort of implementing it, sorely disappointed I want to continue with my Pylatery quest big time, the Story is great, which is a rare comodity in EQ these days, let alone any quest resulting in a decent reward that does not require 100 people to do so, not everyone likes to have a large number of people to help with a quest, thats the idea you earn your item, ut yes I know post 60 the days of soloing for xp are lame compared to those of a groups doing..

This might not turn out to be such a bad idea. On an old MUD that I used to frequent, there were random periods of "Rush Hour". Rush hour meant that, as long as it lasted, all experience gained was doubled. These could happen at any time, though they seemed to be spaced pretty far apart, and they had random durations. Sometimes they lasted only a minute, sometimes an hour! For a small MUD, this was a great thing, as it could sometimes take months to level up once. For EQ, these hot spots might be just the thing. Only time will tell though.

Son of a nerf!

I can't believe them, now because EQ has 7 friggin expansions, and people are tired of joining (or when the acounts were re-activated) and not being able to go to the most used zone in the game. When i joined (right after LoY and befor LDoN) i had quit at Luclin. Being a wizzy all the way, i was really pissed at luclin, my porting went down, and now PoK makes me only good for Hate, Sky, Wakeninglands, and such places as DSP for lazy people. and NOW its open to everyone, expansion or not (after i dropped alot of cash on getting up to date).

Uhg, had to zent

A small tip for PoK, making use of that ridiculous map. Just stare at the ground, bring up the map, turn OFF the heightfilter, and navigate that way. I almost never crash or even LAG when doing this.

[/teal]I agree that a fine way to avoid lag in PoK is to stare at the ground, and follow your map. However, if I just wanted to constantly stare at the ground/map while in relaxing PoK, I wouldn't have upgraded my graphics. This (lag and freezing) is an issue that they need to fix.Smiley: disappointed[/teal]

The problem isn't sony's....it is ours. The cause of the lag is if you type /w /who or just hold ctrl and hit w ull find there are over 5oo players in the zone at one time....only other place that does that is the bazaar...hmm both lag the same amount....both have massive players....both are the only ones people complain about the lag in....anyone else seeing a connection....lets get everyone that wants a freakin SOW to just goto nexus and it might help a bit with the lag in pok. as far as im concerned...forget sony WE need to stop CAUSING the lag in pok then ******** about it!
