Dark Age of Camelot Unaffected by Mythic Closing

EA is shuttering Mythic Entertainment, but Broadsword is prepared to take the reigns.

Several sites began reporting about the closure of Mythic Entertainment yesterday afternoon, and the development team for Dark Age of Camelot wasted no time in reassuring players that maintenance of both DAoC and Ultima Online will continue under the leadership of Broadsword Online. Statements from both Mythic and Broadsword are after the jump.

Talad Saad, Producer of DAoC released this statement:

On www.broadsword.com you will find a message from Broadsword president: Rob Denton about the recent events regarding EA Mythic. I am reaching out to you today to provide you with my personal assurance that the team here at Broadsword remains committed to our investment in Dark Age of Camelot.

I would like our community to know that the promise we made to you at the outset of our journey with Broadsword remains intact, and we look forward to providing more great content, compelling updates, and sleek improvements to Dark Age of Camelot.

The message from Rob Denton over on Broadsword's site goes on to say:

Today, we all received the news that Electronic Arts will be winding down the operation of the Mythic studio. We at Broadsword would like our community to rest assured that Broadsword will continue to partner with EA to invest in the community, operations and continued development of both Ultima Online and Dark Age of Camelot. The spirit and brand of Mythic will continue to live on in both of these gaming communities. We look forward to continuing our journey with our committed fans and players to ensure that both Ultima Online and Dark Age of Camelot continue to grow and thrive for years to come.

We wish the best of luck to any Mythic employees affected by the closure.
