Online Adventures Short Film Contest!

Contest:

It's been three event-filled years since Star Wars Galaxies opened up a new massively multiplayer world to gamers everywhere. Over time, much has happened and there are countless stories to be told…

Now, using in-game footage ONLY, we want you to re-enact those stories!

Introducing the Star Wars Galaxies Online Adventures Short Film Contest, beginning at 10:00 AM (CDT) on Friday, July 28, 2006 and continuing until 11:59PM (CDT) on Friday, August 25th, 2006, in which players can play the role of screenwriter, director, editor and composer all rolled into one, by submitting a short film in one of the following categories:

• Action/Adventure
• Humor
• Romance
• Best Showcasing of Star Wars Signature Characters
• Best Showcasing of Star Wars Environment/World

What's the payoff? In addition to a grand prize package (including a retail version of Star Wars Galaxies ® The Complete Online Adventures signed by members of the development team) if your short film is identified as one of the best, it has a chance to be immortalized forever! Certain winning entries may be included as bonus content for Star Wars Galaxies The Complete Online Adventures and may also be displayed as a "Star Wars Galaxies ® Online Adventures Short Film Contest Winner" on AtomFilms ® or Station.com.

The Selection Process:

Eligible entrants will be judged by a panel of judges, consisting of members of Sponsor's Star Wars Galaxies Development, Community Relations, Marketing, and Public Relations Teams, and a guest judge from AtomFilms®, according to the criteria set forth below. The panel judges will use the following criteria in determining a ranking of the top submissions (the number of which is at Sponsor's discretion, based upon the number and quality of entries) for each of five (5) categories: Action/Adventure, Humor, Romance, Best Showcasing of Star Wars Signature Characters, or Best Showcasing of Star Wars Environment/World. The panel judges will use a 0-100 point scale evaluating each short film equally on the following criteria: originality (0-20 points), creativity (0-20 points), presentation (0-20 points), visual portrayal (0-20 points) and thematic content emphasizing the relevant category for judging (0-20 points). In the unlikely event of a tie for any portion of the Contest, the judging panel shall break that tie by determining which of the tied entries better represents the applicable theme or category.

Finalists will only be selected from those eligible entries meeting the judging criteria set forth above and, if no entry meets the criteria above, in the panel's sole and absolute discretion, then no prize shall be awarded. The eligible Entrants receiving the most number of points from the panel of Judges in each category will be the potential winner/s for that category, subject to verification or eligibility by Sponsor. Following the Contest Period, on or about September 22, 2006, Sponsor will announce the Winners at http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com.

Please note: You may request a preference for the specific category for judging your film, but the panel of judges reserves the right to consider your film in any of the five categories.

Only ONE short film entry only per person and email address will be accepted.

How to Enter:

Read the Official Contest Rules to determine eligibility for this contest before submitting an entry.

Submissions should be sent via email to swgcontests@soe.sony.com with the subject heading "SWG Online Adventures Short Film Contest". Be sure to include all of the following information in the body of your email:

1. Your First and Last Name;

2. Your Age;

3. Your Mailing Address (including street name, apartment number (if any), city, state, zip code and phone number; no P.O. Boxes will be accepted);

4. Your E-Mail Address;

5. Your Star Wars Galaxies Forum Community Handle and Station.com Account Name;

6. Film Title and a brief description (no more than 50 words excluding the title);

7. Hyperlinked URL to an externally-hosted QuickTime (.mov), AVI (.avi) or MPEG (.mpeg) short film (1024x768 format, codec suggestions are MPEG 4 or Soreson 3, and audio should be 16-bit stereo sound, 22khz) of three and a half minutes (3:30) or less in length (including credits); and

8. Your preferred category for consideration (Action/Adventure, Humor, Romance, Best Showcasing of Star Wars Signature Characters, and/or Best Showcasing of Star Wars Environment/World).

NOTE: It is extremely important that you ensure that the website hosting your short film is up and functional for the duration of the contest and judging period. If the web page is unavailable, your submission will not be considered, for entry or judged. Films must be in final, polished condition when submitted for this contest. Any changing or updating of films online or transmitting of new versions after your initial version has been received will result in disqualification.

Game Footage

The content of each film must consist of in-game Star Wars Galaxies footage ONLY. Live action, animated, or any other medium of film will not be accepted. Players looking for help on how to get started can visit this thread on the Star Wars Galaxies message board.

Images:

Do not include any images in your short film outside of the Star Wars Galaxies online game that are copyrighted or subject to the rights of third parties.

Sound/Music:

Any music, sound effects, voice dialogue or other audio components that are contained in Star Wars Galaxies (collectively, "Audio Elements") may be included in an entry, provided, that you use the respective Audio Element(s) solely in context with how such Audio Element is actually used in Star Wars Galaxies. (For example, any music contained in Star Wars Galaxies can only be included in an entry in the exact manner by which such music is synchronized to the Star Wars Galaxies game footage.) Your own original material may be included, provided such original material is without use of any individual or entity belonging to a guild, union or such other organization. With the exception of assets obtained from within the game, all the content of the short film must be your original design and creation.

Format:

Short films must be submitted in Quicktime, AVI, or MPEG 1024*768 or higher resolution, no larger than 50 megs and codec suggestions are mpeg 4 or soreson 3. We prefer Quicktime format. Audio should be 16-bit stereo sound, 22khz.

Length:

The movie length should be no longer than three minutes and thirty seconds (3:30) in length (including any credits).

Credits:

If others assisted with the making of your movie, feel free to give them credit. However, only the person submitting the short film can be credited as a winner.

Contest Rules:

1. Please read the Official Contest Rules before submitting an entry.

2. Contest is open only to natural persons who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States (including the District of Columbia) for the duration of the Contest. Void in Puerto Rico, Guam, all other U.S. and all foreign territories and possessions and wherever prohibited or restricted by law. Contest may only be entered from and in eligible jurisdictions. Entrants must be eighteen (18) years of age or older at time of entry in order to participate.

3. Please remember to stay within the Terms of Service Agreement and the Terms of Use for Star Wars Galaxies when participating in this contest or you will be disqualified and further action may be taken. This includes inappropriate names, words, or images.

4. The Terms of Service Agreement provides that, by submitting (e.g., uploading or transmitting) Content to an SOE Communication Feature, you automatically grant SOE the royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, and fully sublicensable right and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform and display such Content (in whole or part) worldwide and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, media, or technology now known or later developed. In addition, you warrant that any and all so-called "moral rights" in the Content have been waived.

Prizes:

Grand Prize Winners

• Grand Prize Package for each category consists of one (1) Star Wars Galaxies baseball cap, one (1) Star Wars Galaxies sixty (60) day pre-paid game card, and one (1) retail version of Star Wars Galaxies ® : The Complete Online Adventures signed by members of the development team.

• Consideration for inclusion as bonus content on the retail version of Star Wars Galaxies ® The Complete Online Adventures tentatively scheduled for release in Fall/Winter 2006.

• Additionally, the Grand Prize Winners' short films may be displayed as " Star Wars Galaxies ® Online Adventures Short Film Contest Winners" on the Station.com website (http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com), the AtomFilms® website (http://atomfilms.com), and/or any other Star Wars Galaxies related website in Sponsor's and/or its Licensor's sole discretion.
