Mythos is an online, action role-playing experience set in the land of Uld - a fantasy world arising from the ashes of an epoch-long war of darkness. Join others in a heroic quest to reclaim the land from the creatures while striving to be the first to discover ancient and powerful secrets of lost civilizations.
Players assume the roles of fantasy heroes as they explore, adventure, and quest through entirely randomized dungeons and environments. Mythos allows thousands of players to interact within the same world while using entirely instanced dungeons to create unique gaming experiences suited for both solo and group-minded players. This means the game dynamically constructs the adventuring areas for each band of fortune-hunters every time. No two play sessions are exactly the same, and there is always something new waiting around the next dimly-lit corner.
Whether adventuring together or braving the dangers of the world of Uld alone, friendships are formed, alliances are forged, and the competition for knowledge, power and glory is on! And every time in will be a new experience.
Mythos is also entirely free-to-play. One need only download the game client, install, and create a user account to experience the vast world of Uld.
The three classes are Bloodletter, Pyromancer, and Gadgeteer. Each class' skills are divided into three groups. Bloodletter can be considered "the warrior," Pyromancer "the mage," and Gadgeteer "the marksman," although a Pyromancer has skills that make him a powerful melee fighter, and Bloodletter a powerful caster.
All classes have summons that work independently of their master (without control); unless you are a Bloodletter using Crimson Mark which marks a target for your pets to attack.
A Gadgeteer can summon fire/lightning turrets and widgets, small airborne machines that have abilities ranging from damaging foes to healing the Gadgeteer and his party to giving the Gadgeteer additional damage in their presence. Widgets last for a set amount of time, and turrets last until damaged or recast. This is the range of the Gadgeteer's "Tinker" group.
The Pyromancer has two summons, Flame Wisp and Burning Colossus. While a Flame Wisp's primary function is the dealing of damage (its attack is similar to the Pyromancer's Flame Dart) it can take a few hits. It lasts until its "shots" are used up (set amount of attacks). The Burning Colossus primarily takes damage but moves slowly (which can be remedied through skills providing a passive upgrade) and lasts until it takes a maximum amount of damage (up to 2600 with max upgrades).
The bloodletter also has two summons, but multiple entities appear when summoned: Bloodlings (melee attackers summoned from corpses) and Blood Imps (ranged attackers, also from corpses). The bloodletter may have six of each at maximum level, creating a small personal army.
Unfortunately, Mythos is currently in Closed Beta, a form of testing not open to all players. We will soon enter an Open Beta phase, however. At that time, game download links will become available.
July 2008 brought financial hardship to Flagship Studios and caused the layoffs of all but the core management and founding team members.
Rights for the now defunct MMO are being fought over by Flagship and Korean development company Hanbitsoft. Hanbitsoft claims that the IP is owed them and is only waiting for Flagship's bankruptcy or loan default confirmation. Until such time, Flagship remains the legal owner of both the Mythos and Hellgate:London IPs.
