DC Universe Online Beta has Officially Started

The DC Universe Online beta has officially started! Sony Online Entertainment has launched a new page on the game's site that lets players who pre-ordered the game submit their receipts for guaranteed access into the beta. Players who submit their receipt by Nov. 15 will definitely receive a beta key by Nov. 30.

If you submit your receipt after Nov. 15, SOE will still send you a beta key on or before the last week of beta so you can participate in the "Battle of the Legends" beta ending event. The event will be held for several days and is based on the battle staged in the DCUO cinematic featuring Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor and The Joker. In case you missed it, check out the director's cut of the cinematic after the jump.

If you don't want to pre-order the game, you can still register on the DCUO site for a chance to participate in the beta. Have you pre-ordered DC Universe Online?

Video Shows Combat Footage from DCUO Beta

Sony Online Entertainment has released another DC Universe Online video following the announcement that the game has been delayed until early 2011. The first video gave players a high-flying tour of Metropolis, while this one features footage of combat straight from the beta test.

If you want to know what battles will look like in DC Universe Online, simply click through the jump and watch the video! You'll even get a glimpse at the numerous powers your character will be able to use in the game.

Take a Fly-Through Tour of Metropolis in New Video

While the recent news that DC Universe Online has been delayed until early 2011 may be what's best for the game, it does leave fans wanting even more details about the comic-based MMO. Well, Sony Online Entertainment has fulfilled that wish in the form of a Metropolis Travelogue trailer.

So what's a Travelogue trailer, you ask? It's a fly-through tour of Superman's favorite city. Watch the video after the jump for a bird's eye view of the area, and you might catch a glimpse of some heroes speeding through Metropolis.

DC Universe Online Delayed Until Early 2011

If you expected to fly around Metropolis on November 2, it looks like you're going to have to wait a little longer. Sony Online Entertainment just announced that DC Universe Online has been delayed until early 2011. SOE President John Smedley said this will allow the team to address community feedback as the game heads into external beta testing.

Speaking of beta testing, SOE took this opportunity to explain a bit more how the beta will work. Players with VIP key cards and who register on the DCUO website by 11:59 p.m. PST tonight will gain access to the beta on a priority basis starting as early as next week. This doesn't guarantee access, but it gives you a better chance. If you prefer a sure thing, North American players who pre-order the game by November 15 are guaranteed access in the beta by November 30.

SOE also announced that a DCUO Collector's Edition for the PlayStation 3 will be released in North America that includes a "DCUO Batman statue, the limited edition Art of DC Universe Online art book, the DCUO Legends Issue #0 comic book with a Jim Lee variant cover, the DCUO Prestige comic presentation of the DCUO back-story and the limited edition Jim Lee-drawn poster Version of the Legends Issue #0 comic book variant cover." That's a lot of swag!

New DCUO Screenshots for all!

Yeaaaaah screenshots! This week the team over at DCUO has released a brand new batch of screenshots, and this time around they've chosen to highlight various locations in Metropolis and Gotham City. Included in their screenshot package is the Gotham University, Metropolis University and the Science Police Quarters, as well as some DC Universe heroes kicking butt (in the press release, they call it "over the top combat," but I'm not sure how a screenshot can really transmit that over-the-top feel...).

Either way, check out those screenshots in our screenshot gallery here!

DCUO Brings New Lex Luthor Screenshots and Info

We all know who Alexander (Lex) Luthor is, but the real question has always been... do we have screenshots of him!? Well, if we didn't... now we do! Today the team working on DC Universe Online has just released a batch of new screenshots featuring our lovable ambitious nemesis to Superman. Rocking out in his mean robot suit, Lex Luthor will play an integral role in SOE's upcoming DC Universe Online MMO.

To make it even better, Sony Online Entertainment has released a director's cut version of the trailer that features commentary by Jim Lee, a legendary comic artist and DCUO's creative director, and Blur Studio Director Tim Miller.
