Frogster to Publish TERA for Europe

An European MMORPG publishing company's press release.

A new topic has arisen today due to the emergence of a press release, with many people voicing their heated opinions and concerns at a thread on the official forums. What is interesting is that, this publisher primarily does Free-to-Play games. What does this mean? Will Europeans be forced to play the Frogster version? Are Focus Group Testers going to be split up? What pay model will it use? It has even prompted En Masse's Senior Community Manager Scapes to respond by saying that it's clear there are a lot of questions about this, but En Masse is working with Bluehole Studio and Frogster on a response, and will post it as soon as possible.

We put the official information last night, but understand that Frogster is a publishing partner and En Masse cannot speak for them. Add to that, that we're working across three different time zones (Korea, Germany, West Coast US.)

I need to stress this again because it's very important: En Masse cannot speak for Frogster. Frogster representatives are going to come on this forum to begin answering questions very soon.

I know you guys still have a lot of unanswered questions. So please, take a deep breath and remember that we're working with everyone to get you guys the information you need as quickly as possible. Thanks!

Imo there is to this. There must be some serious reason why this happened. Maybe it's BHS that wants to make this young company a better company... (optimistic view)

There are so many things that we don't know, cause business happens behind closed doors. Frog did only f2p games; but with tera they changed and now they'll have at least one p2p game. This means this company can change, who knows BHS might have put the business agrement with extremely high demands and if frogs fails who knows BHS might simply get another company. It's all a wait and see :)

Scapes reply on the official forum was expected. Just saying that they are confident that frog will do the duty as demanded.

Anyway high chance I'm playing NA servers anyway :)

Do you know if any comment has been made regarding region restrictions or not? Will EU be able to play on NA without bypassing ip blocks? I haven't heard anything about that yet.

I play Runes of Magic and actually like it. I think it is probably the best F2P game out there, bar none. And, although I do see occasional gold-selling spam (much less that right after launch) I have rarely seen an obvious farmer and I have never seen a bot.

Note: ZAM does have a Runes of Magic wiki at http://www.zam.com/wiki/Runes_of_Magic

While I haven't played RoM myself, I have played other F2P games which suffer from the problem ACarroll described. But then again, there are also P2P games that did have problems with farmers and spam, like Aion. Mostly there's a big explosion of panic over on the official forums and IRC channels and we're still waiting on an update from En Masse CM Scapes to get more info about how exactly this will affect people.

I am a NA player so it does not effect me directly but if Frogster starts asking for help from EM and BHS then the game could possibly take longer to produce.

I have played some of Frogster's F2P games and have not had the best experience. If you just log in and read the chat it is just players complaining about the farmers and much more. I feel sorry for the EU players if they get stuck with a F2P game with an item shop.

Just my 2 cents.
