ZAM Interviews TERA Stress Testers
We find out some specifics about TERA gameplay from players who participated in the Korean stress test.
ZAM: In PvP was there one class that just seemed to have more of an edge compared to the rest?
TeraWorld: It is difficult to assess this issue at such low levels, but if there is a class that stands above the rest it would be the sorcerer due to their great DPS. But as I said, the ping was playing well in his favor and they could attack from a distance, slow down, and even knock down while we are unable to get closer. The slayer and the archer also look pretty strong at this point. This was all taken in the context of a 1v1. In group PVP maybe other classes becomes more important like healer (priest) or CC classes (mystic).
ZAM: Were the monsters varied enough in abilities, appearance and tactics to keep the game interesting throughout?
TeraWorld: This is something that gets better as you progress through the game. While the first monsters have a simple combat mechanics, you'll find higher level mobs of these are developing more sophisticated tactics (such as a group of panthers surrounding you to attack from several angles). The truth is we think that the small portion of the game that we tested had a variety of monsters that is more than acceptable, and group monsters are especially fun to kill.
ZAM: How long did it take to level from 1 to 10? 10 to 20? What would you expect the overall leveling curve to feel like?
TeraWorld: From 1 to 10 about 2-3 hours, from 10 to 20 about 12-15 hours and from 20 to 25 about 20 hours, depending on the player and class. From level 20 we feel that it is harder to level up. It is difficult to predict how long it will take to get to maximum level, but it seems that the later levels will be long.
ZAM: With the manual targeting system, do area of effect attacks seem to be more powerful than they should be in PvP?
TeraWorld: We have experienced PvP much less than we wanted, only some duels. But we can say that area attacks can be very useful and effective. This makes some classes such as the Slayer becomes very important.
ZAM: Lastly, is there anything that you would like to say about your experiences in TERA so far? I'm sure ZAM readers would love to hear how you feel.
TeraWorld: Our experience has been really positive. We can say that the game has great potential and that the game's combat system is really exciting and something really worth trying. We would have liked to test more PvP as we are a PvP-minded community. However, open PvP was disabled for the stress test. We look forward to open beta to see if we can delve deeper into this and also try things like the political system or the battle grounds.
ZAM: We would like to thank TeraWorld for taking the time to answer these questions and agreeing to this interview. Keep checking back for more details regarding TERA.
