Exclusive Priest Q&A with TERA's Stefan Ramirez
Following our exclusive in-depth look at TERA's priest class, we sat down with Associate Producer Stefan Ramirez to find out more about this versatile healer.
ZAM: In PvP, do priests have enough firepower to be considered a threat or will their role be that of support?
Ramirez: You can fine tune your priest to serve in either capacity, but on the PvP battlefield, the support role will probably provide a better benefit to your team than going toe-to-toe with one of our damage-dealing classes. In PvP, player skill is a huge factor, and we have options that will allow players to use the priest class outside of a support role.
ZAM: With the blessing system, can only one blessing will be active at a time? What if there are multiple priests in a group?
Ramirez: You can have multiple blessings active at one time, but only one of each kind of blessing. If there are multiple priests in the group, they can each bless the group. If one priest is of higher skill than the others, the highest blessing is applied to everyone. Charms work the same way — the highest charm takes precedence.
ZAM: Do priests have any mobility abilities in their arsenal, such as dodge?
Ramirez: Priests do have options that directly impact movement in different ways. They have the ability to deal damage and jump backward to get space from enemies that charge at them. Priests can use the Retaliate skill to pop up swinging after being knocked down. They can also use a buff to enhance their movement speed or that of their party members.
ZAM: Are there any healing spell combos that are similar to Final Reprisal?
Ramirez: Certain skills will combo. For example, when you resurrect someone, a heal will follow. The idea is to have heals combo when it makes sense.
ZAM: Will priests have enough range on their heals to allow them to safely avoid most boss attacks and special abilities?
Ramirez: Speed counts, and you can effectively add speed enhancements in combat from gear, potions and crystals. Outside of running, priests do have a skill that helps them to jump out of the enemies reach, and they also have crowd control abilities that allow them to put creatures to sleep.
ZAM: Is there anything else you'd like to mention about the priest class?
Ramirez: The priest is not a class you can put on cruise control! You can’t just sit back and play the UI. Instead, you are actively in the fight alongside warriors, lancers, and other classes casting heals, buffs and attacks. As a priest, you will engage in the fight offensively, defensively, and in a support role that compliments the action combat in TERA.
