Orphaned as children when the Shade decimated Moonshade Highlands, ancestral home of the Dwarves and site of their great fortress, the Hammerknell, Murbo, Kelnin and Scotty Malm were raised by their uncle in Silverwood. Now the brothers have enrolled in Quicksilver College to learn the arts of magic. They remember very little of their parents but destiny has a way of remembering for you...

† The Dungeon quest, Rightful Inheritance in Runic Descent, is unfortunately required before you can get the final three quests.
Finishing the first half of the series (Big Brother Hazer to Hazers to Hazees) will complete the achievement Freshman Orientation.
Completion of the entire chain grants the achievement From Outcast to Hero. Only the four quests Hazers to Hazees, The Messenger, The Churning Fates and Through Thick and Thin are technically required, but you have to do the entire series to get those four.
Also, mid-chain, there is an achievement (The Ebb of the Tidelord) for Defeating Tidelord Brenin.
The following Collection is related to this story.
Most of these items are simply trash drops, but they add a bit of flavor to the tale.

Murbo Malm introduces you to his younger brother, Scotty, a first-year student here at the College. Scotty has been having problems with severe hazing from an upper-classman, Fiona Lechtum, and Murbo asks you to help out (Big Brother Hazer, Trial of the Three Elements, and March Out to the Marsh).
Later that same year his tormentor, Fiona Lechtum, tells you that she has set Scotty up, again, and is concerned that he may actually get hurt so she asks you to go watch over him (Skull and Bones). After this final humiliation, Scotty asks your help to get even (Hazers to Hazees).
Waykeeper Istan says, "Have you seen a dwarf student around here? I think his name was Scotty. He ran off with my spare torch."
You find Scotty practicing his fighting with Sir Treylan Hauer on the bridge just inside Scarlet Gorge, at Riverfell.
Dame Chloe Hisler: I wonder how that new trainee is doing. I think his name was Scotty.
You overheard Ralyn Laurel at Kain's Command saying "If Quicksilver College suspends our grant, I don't know what we'll do. Even Scotty will have cause to laugh at us."
The first quest you get here, The Fall of Moonshade, sends you to talk to four residents and one of them is our old friend, Scotty! He tells you he has come to save Moonshade and find the remnants of his family. He was too young when Hammerknell fell to remember anything, though.
Scotty was here, killing Azure Blade Pillagers to stay in practice.
General Stanig asks you to help him destroy three family heirlooms so they are no longer at the mercy of this corruption (Eternal Custodian). When you go to destroy the Toy Anvil Scotty runs up and tells you that he remembers this anvil from his childhood and that he will take it away from this place. This means that 1) Scotty is from Molinar Crossing, and 2) he is a scion of General Stanig's family! He was only a child when it happened, though, and knows none of this.
When you fight to free Bahralt's Messenger (The Messenger) Scotty shows up and helps. Together you defeat the Abyssals and free the Messenger. Then, a Messenger of the Vigil appears and tells Scotty that his father was General Stanig Malm of The Runeguard! He also tells him that if he holds to his path and does not lose faith he will meet his father!
Scotty has finally learned of his heritage and become a mighty hero in his own right!
When you return to Captain Haghen you find that Scotty has already been there and told the Captain about Stanig being his father. Haghen expresses his doubts, to you, about the solidity of Scotty's worldview.
On the path to confront the third Corrupted Warden (The Drift of Wind and Tide) you meet Scotty again. He asks if you are here to confront the demon and you say yes. He says that he will come with you. At this point his father, General Stanig, appears and talks to Scotty.
You arrive at Stonekey Court to destroy Tidelord Brenin (The Churning Fates) Scotty is already there, trying to disrupt the Monstrosity, but he lacks the strength. You use the Runeguard Hammer and it works, but leaves you now facing a pissed-off Elite demon. Next, four ghosts arrive: The three Wardens, as promised, and General Stanig. Together they strip Tidelord Brenin of his power. Now he can be defeated! You and Scotty launch an all-out assault on him and succeed. When he falls Estrode emerges, announces that he cannot stay out here without a body but that he will be waiting for you inside Hammerknell, and he flees with Scotty in valiant pursuit.
When you inform Captain Haghen of Scotty's actions he says that the lad has earned his place in The Runeguard. He sends you to get two items from inside Runic Descent that belonged to General Stanig so Scotty can have them for his Runeguard Induction Ceremony (Rightful Inheritance).
After, Haghen asks you to help get the word out by carrying the invitations to four persons that have been very important in Scotty's life (One Dwarf's Dream).
Finally, Scotty is all set to be inducted into The Runeguard. Captain Haghen sends you to Sanctum to attend (A Ceremony in Sanctum). Borrin Gammult will officiate and all of his friends arrive in time. Last but not least, the ghost of General Stanig Malm, Scotty's father, appears and tells him "I'm so proud of you, Scotty. My time has passed, and now yours has begun. May happiness surround you always. Farewell, my beloved son." (Through Thick and Thin)
