For decades the Teir`Dal controlled The Overthere, making it a haven for the dark races. They built up the defenses in their own style as the empire of the sarnak grew stronger.
It was only a short while ago that the Combine appeared at their gates in the form of Tsaph Katta himself. He asked the Teir`Dal to join the Combine, but they refused. No true son or daughter of Hate, they said, would join such a group. Rather than risk facing the might of the Combine, the Teir`Dal simply abandoned their former haven.
Many returned home, some went someplace into the heart of Kunark, and a very few remained to assist the Combine.
The sarnak themselves have only recently turned their sights on The Overthere. Their forces have become so numerous now that it is nearly impossible for most members of the Combine to travel safely through the area.
So far, however, direct conflict has not broken out between the two groups. The sarnak have not gathered the power needed to break the magically reinforced walls of the port, and the Combine just does not have the forces they would need to try to take the vast grassland beyond the port from the sarnak.
It is up to the heroes of Norrath to provide the strength the Combine needs to make The Overthere safe enough to re-open the docks.
"Oh, this? I earned a new staff when I took my new post as Magia Mortis here in The Overthere. I am the very first of that title, I'll have you know."
"My people, if you ask me, were too easily talked out of ownership of this port. We worked hard to build up her defenses against the sarnak, and it seems like a shame to just leave. They had their reasons, I know, and I can't be too unhappy with the new defenders.
The Combine have done a good job of keeping the sarnak at bay. And they do let me get on with my work, and that's important. There are always corpses to examine and chat with, you know, especially in these grim times."
The Combine needs your strength to push the sarnak OUT.

In Gorowyn, each of the four castes has a purpose and a building dedicated to that purpose.
The Krellnakor are soldiers, living to defend the city and claim an empire for their people. Those dedicated to magic and the power it lends are the Arcron. Wulthan are the spiritual leaders focused on dedication to understanding and following the will of Veeshan, as expressed to them by Talendor. Those devoted to crafting, the Fereth, also handle leadership and run the city.
Despite their dedication to building an empire and a war machine, the city itself holds a great beauty that anyone can understand.
Its beauty comes from an admirable melding of ancient sarnak construction, draconic influence, and the modern sarnak taking ideas from other cultures they have encountered.
Norrath's heroes should admire this beauty, but not allow it to lull then into a sense of safety. Those that built Gorowyn are dedicated to controlling all of Kunark and the blood of enemies is the lubrication that makes their war machine work.
Having battled his own family for decades, Bathezid of the Di'Zok left Chardok in secret after finding the location of the remnants of the city of Gorowyn.
With the strength of the Kar'Zok given to him by Atrebe, the Overking restored the city and formed a new society of sarnak. A new society is based on a caste system rather than the broods of his ancestors. Pitting the castes against each other motivates them to improve and keeps them from working together to overthrow their Overking.

The grand iksar city of Charasis, known to those exploring Kunark for the first time as Howling Stones, has been lost to the living since the fall of the Sebilisian Empire.
However, while ravaging and conquering the lands of their old masters, the sarnak learned of the existence of Sathir's Tomb in the depths of the old city. Unable to open or destroy the door, the sarnak dug through the stone of the mountain and breached the crypt from the side.
Inside they have found grand architecture under massive domed roofs. Undead and golems still wander the place to defend it from outsiders.
The sarnak now battle the ever-rising undead in an attempt to claim the tomb and any riches it might contain. They appear unconcerned about what they might release or what the deadly ex-emperor of the Sebelisian Empire might think of their intrusion.

Drusella Sathir
It is hard to find in all the histories of Norrath a more tragic figure than Drusella Sathir. She fell in love with Emperor Venril Sathir, a creature that treated her with what could only be called disdain while she lived. Together they built one of the greatest empires known to Norrath.
After her death Venril bound her bones to guard his phylactery deep in the long-dead city of Charasis. Her husband eventually took the body of their only son Rile as his own, damning Rile to an unknown spiritual afterlife.
Now Venril has returned with another plan that involves his family. It is hard to believe that his intentions are in any way good. Only those with a strong heart should follow Drusella's tale in Empires of Kunark.

When the Ring of Scale split from the Claws of Veeshan they centered their activities in Kunark. They were the faction that desired freedom of will for each dragon, exiled because they would not condemn mating between dragons of differing elements.
They built a stronghold dedicated to Veeshan and have watched over Kunark from there for as long as any can remember. Serving as both temple and fortress, Veeshan's Peak represents the strength and will of the dragons that built it.
Veeshan's Peak has loomed over everyone that has lived in Kunark, a deadly threat to any who would disturb or hinder the will of the children of the Mother of All Dragons. Even the Iksar at the height of their empire feared to anger the lords and ladies of the Peak, though that did not prevent some of them from taking one of those dragons captive and using its blood for their own secret magic.
Only now have mortals gained the will and strength to come to the grand door of Veeshan's Peak in anger, with full intent to take control of Kunark and strike out in revenge against those that have ruled the continent since they were placed on Norrath by Veeshan herself.
Talendor, general of the children of Veeshan and respected protector of the Ring of Scale, has always been aggressive in his defense of his kind.
He has led his forces into battles for as long as any but the first brood remember and has rarely been defeated.
Now the heroes of Norrath, agents of gods and mortals, have risen against the Ring of Scale in reaction to the great red dragon's leadership of the sarnak and his aggressive intent to take control of Kunark. The battle must eventually come to a climax inside the home of the Ring of Scale, deep in the heart of Veeshan's Peak.
