Rift Mob:Herald Gaurath

Strategy

Herald Gaurath is a dragon boss with 3.17 million health. We chose to stack the entire raid to start at Herald's front foot. We chose to alternate between front leg and back leg during the encounter. This was both to mitigate Tidings of Woe and to avoid accidental DPS aggro on adds that will spawn from totems cast during the encounter. The green totems spawn 2 Ancient Defilers (remnamed to Indomitable Horror since the raid first published, so you may still hear your raid leader call out "Defilers"); while the red ones will spawn 1 Ancient Cutthroat and 1 Ancient Executioner. We chose to single-target these adds, as they have relatively high health as compared to similar raid boss adds. We chose to take down the Defilers first, the Cutthroats second and the Executioner last. Herald will also cast Breath of the Void, which is a frontal cone and the tank will take approximately 3k damage, and must be healed through. Herald will also cast Tidings of Woe at a random raider, the damage of which will be spread across all nearby raiders, which is why we stacked up.

Herald will occasionally enter an air phase. Before doing so, he will spawn three totems, and the appropriate adds. He will also cast a meteor down at the ground, and the area where the meteor lands will deal significant pulse damage, and should be avoided. We chose to mark a healer and follow him throughout the air phase, making sure everyone was stacked on top of the offtank and the adds. The main tank will want to travel far North to assure that Herald's position resets correctly when he comes back down to ground phase. The adds are a DPS check, as you do not want your offtank overwhelmed by more than one set of adds at a time.

After this, the encounter is rinse and repeat until dead.

At 10%, Herald will stop going into air phase, but will continue to spawn totems and adds.
